two questions. First, does it have to be an Iphone or is it compatible with androids. Is this an exploit that can or will be patched in the future making the method/trick unusable.

The method only works with iPhones. I can't say if Apple will ever change the features that allow this technique to work, but it also depends on the specatator's phone privacy settings. Most iPhones will work with 100% accuracy, but he explains how to get out of any situation if the phone is not fully compatible.
