I need some more information. Does this "Aces" effect have an author?

NFW is a modern classic. Odds are NFW was created first.

Do you mean Ace by Richard Sanders? If you do Ace was released years after NFW and they are virtually the same trick. Sanders offers some alternate handlings but the effect and method is the same.
