Occulus

Is Occulus so real that we can't actually see the effect in the video?

Hi Brandon,

I do not doubt that this might be an excellent effect, but to suggest that since there are no props or that it is not a "visual effect" means we don't need to see the effect seems quite silly. As in, we do not need to see mentalism demos because they don't have fire, doves, or startling visual effects?

I'd love to see this made "real" with an actual performance of the effect. Without that, the advertisement instead suggests that if we saw the performance, we would a) be underwhelmed, or b) easily understand the method (though admittedly, have nowhere near the mastery that you have developed).

To advertise a trick, regardless of whether or not it is visual, should probably include an actual performance of the effect. As a consumer, I feel that that is a reasonable position to hold, regardless of whether or not the effect is "visual" or not. There is something to see. That's why audiences watch you. If there was "nothing to see", I can't imagine why would audiences would watch the effect. No doves, fire or flash, but an effect that occurs in the minds of spectators is still "something to see".

I'd appreciate it if a seller would let us see what they are selling, and what we are potentially buying.

Hey Nathan,

Thanks for your question. I appreciate the facetious tone in your query, but sarcasm aside you do bring up a valid concern that the demo video appears quite vague and allusive as to what the effect is. Please allow me to explain and clarify what Oculus is.

Oculus is a binary deduction process which utilizes physiological methods to ascertain both imagined and observable quantitative content. This could be (as seen in the demo) a playing card, a hidden object, or even a thought of person. This is not a visual effect, so there is nothing to see. There is also no props being used, so there again is also nothing to see. What makes this "real" is that depending on how you present this, you'll be doing exactly as you say you do. If you decide to present your mind reading with a psychological approach and claim to use body language reading, you wouldn't be lying, because that's exactly what you're doing.

This has taken me over 7 years to master, I don't expect anyone to do have 100% accuracy five minutes after watching the video. If you put the work into this, you will achieve desired results.
