Sticky situation

After the trick, it says it can be handed out for inspection, does this mean it can be eaten?

If you end the trick by putting the gum away in the pack, then you can take out what seems to be the same stick and let the person chew it.

The exact piece of gum cannot be eaten. Who would want to anyway after seeing that? In the rare case that someone does ask to eat it, you can simply swap the gum piece for another one. As Rick said, "You can't tell the difference."

If you want to do an easy switch than if you are at a table than just pretend to drop the gimmick into your lap and use that time to switch it.
