Answering your question specifically:
Yes, a 12 year old could learn and perform the trick.
But, there are many other options available to the younger set that could be just as rewarding to the youngster vs. a trick such as Little Door.
Candidly, the handling, although easy and very natural, might be a challenge for 12 yr old hands.
However, as I stated, he could do it.
