Magic, entertainment, and comedy -- all in one effect!

Sharp Turn is an easy-to-do, custom-designed Sharpie-style pen gimmick that allows for some eye popping visual magic. It can fit straight into any existing routine you have, or you can build a routine around the gimmick itself.

Sharp Turn allows you to have the nib of the pen jump from one end of the pen to the other. It also creates the illusion of recapping and uncapping the pen in the blink of an eye. The cap visibly jumps from one end of the pen to the other! Try as hard as you like... you just can't seem to uncap the pen... or once a card has been signed, you find it impossible to get the pen to recap.

If you are looking to add an extra moment or two of visual eye candy to your magic, then Sharp Turn could be exactly the right gimmick for you... at a very competitive price.

Comes complete with gimmicked pen and full online instructions.

Two Stars off due to Aesthetic issues Report this review

I love this prop and will use it regularly! The design makes the move totally easy to perform due to the pen is more like oval rather than round.
It is STURDY and you should never have to be worried breaking The "Sharpys" fake Sharpie logo is an Ambigram, so that it reads regardless when it is turned either direction. That is very clever, given that you have to have the pen being turned this way or other way. However, you wouldn't want to give the spectator such a close burn of it anyway AND your fingers obscure the logo much of the time during performance.

"SOOO...if I like it SO MUCH, why two stars off??"
Well here it is from Major to Minor:

1) Biggest issues is the amount of excess adhesive poking out of all the seams of the assembly, and is was more "rough" than expected. It did not communicate careful manufacturing, rather it was more like rapid, mass production. (The box lid says it is Made by Uday,India)

2) All of the Gray and Black areas are a little scuffed up, kinda like a Sharpie that you have in use for a long time. If you handle a Sharpie enough, you are accustomed to a clean, shiny aesthetic item, NEW looking.

3) Mine is slightly "curved" from tip-to-tip. I do not know if this is what everyone will find. However, it is really slight and should never been noticed by a spectator.

4) The most minor peeve is there is a small square of felt in the box. When you view the tutorial video, you find that you can make the "writing tip" more realistic by cutting a small triangle of the felt and glue it on the nib area. With all the glue going on making this pen...couldn't someone have added that during production?

You should STILL get one! I just wanted to be honest what you will get "warts and all". STILL it is a very usable prop.
It isn't meant to be a "major miracle" anyway, but a fun transition between effects. Starting to use a pen which acts so crazily also gives you a perfect excuse to put it away...which is perfect misdirection to secretly also ditch OR pickup another item!

Blessings,
Steph

Ugly and Cheap Report this review

To start, I've spent a couple thousand dollars at Penguin. Never complained, but this trick is ugly. Poorly put together, doesn't fool people from 10ft away let alone 1.

We use sharpies all day at work so thought this would be a golden ticket of an effect, but first time I brought it people thought my kid made it.

It's ugly. And cheap looking.

Interesting Idea at best Report this review

This was a special bonus for spending a certain amount during Black Friday. Sharp Turn is an interesting idea and great on video, and probably Instagram, but I don't plan on performing this in the real world as it's angle sensitive and uses the p***le move which I'm not particularly fond of.

1 star off for variability Report this review

I encountered none of the sample defects about which others have complained. No bending, breaking, excess glue, phlegmatic wheezing. This is a quickie and most suited to switching in/out. Don't expect this to be the focus of a close up segment or even to be useful close up. Seems as if there are QA problems and the price may be too high for a grab bag item. But if you get a solid, neat, straight item then you have a durable sizzler. Your mucilage may vary.

Matthew does a great job describing the pen and how to use it.
The pen is good. Not "...A beautifully, professionally designed prop...". It is a fine prop and when you get it, cause you should, remember that this is a unique item and is well made. The description made me think it was 'gold' lol.

Regardless, A great trick and I love it.

I don’t really like Mathew. I’ll give big ups to his multiplying boxes, but as far as his products go that’s the only one I’ve been thoroughly impressed by. (Hmmm did he do Nut Dropper?) okay maybe two. Others have fallen way short. Interaction with him sucked, I bought this from the open box for around six bucks plus shipping. The one saving grace of Marveloues Efx is the massive content(Even if much of it rehashed from Older releases Mathew Usually has a plethora of info and lines on routines. This fell short to the tune of an eight minute tutorial. Had I bought this at full price I’d be peeved. it is over priced@$25.00 due to the Lackluster effort to the instructions. There is a great shoutout to Ron Jackson with a great routine using similar moves for the inspiration. But other than that not much to the tutorial. So far I am pleased with the design and find it fun to toy with.
Three stars seems like a more generous review than some here but I actually don’t have a problem with the design for its purpose as a throw effect or Instagram post. I’ve had major issue with Mathews plastic products before but this appears durable. Time will tell. See it in the cool box pick it up if your into sharpie magic and aren’t scared by angles, cause it’s pretty straight forward..when it comes to angles.
