Yes, a beginner can do this. BUT this is not for the magician who likes sleight of hand, coins or traditional magic tricks. It's more of a theater piece. It's a trick designed to have FUN with your audience and amaze them at the same time. It's not a trick you're going to walk up to a spectator on the street and try to impress them or show your friend at lunch.
Ok I ask wherever I can. It may surprise folks when they first see you manipulate the shadow but no one would be fooled right? Especially with the phone case folks know how a shadow shape is made. So why do magicians love this so much/ We can;t all be frustrated puppeteers? Is the allure here as a performance piece for fun? Is it to make your show more of a show and memorable rather than just mystery and puzzles? I am the type of performer people would expect to do this type of effect because I like to play and have fun. I find it makes the real foolers hit way harder. But I just don't see this as magic, perhaps combined with another effect?

I would recommend a flip case although not need it would make it better!
Do you need to use a flip case for your phone to hide the gimmick?
Absolutely! A beginner can do this . You just have to watch the tutorial, have patience for the practice and handling. It’s real fun to do and well made!
i don't have it yet but because it is unlike any other effect, it shouldn't be harder for beginners to master.
