I love this prop and will use it regularly! The design makes the move totally easy to perform due
to the pen is more like oval rather than round.
It is STURDY and you should never have to be
worried breaking The "Sharpys" fake Sharpie logo is an Ambigram, so that it reads regardless when it
is turned either direction. That is very clever, given that you have to have the pen being turned
this way or other way. However, you wouldn't want to give the spectator such a close burn of it
anyway AND your fingers obscure the logo much of the time during performance.
"SOOO...if I
like it SO MUCH, why two stars off??"
Well here it is from Major to Minor:
1) Biggest
issues is the amount of excess adhesive poking out of all the seams of the assembly, and is was more
"rough" than expected. It did not communicate careful manufacturing, rather it was more like rapid,
mass production. (The box lid says it is Made by Uday,India)
2) All of the Gray and Black
areas are a little scuffed up, kinda like a Sharpie that you have in use for a long time. If you
handle a Sharpie enough, you are accustomed to a clean, shiny aesthetic item, NEW looking.
3) Mine is slightly "curved" from tip-to-tip. I do not know if this is what everyone will find.
However, it is really slight and should never been noticed by a spectator.
4) The most
minor peeve is there is a small square of felt in the box. When you view the tutorial video, you
find that you can make the "writing tip" more realistic by cutting a small triangle of the felt and
glue it on the nib area. With all the glue going on making this pen...couldn't someone have added
that during production?
You should STILL get one! I just wanted to be honest what you
will get "warts and all". STILL it is a very usable prop.
It isn't meant to be a "major
miracle" anyway, but a fun transition between effects. Starting to use a pen which acts so crazily
also gives you a perfect excuse to put it away...which is perfect misdirection to secretly also
ditch OR pickup another item!
Blessings,
Steph
This review nailed it... You can fool yourself and make it look just like the video. BUT the setbacks are correct, yet not a big deal. This should be redesigned and put back out! It is a great prop as the intro to bringing a sharpie out.... Doesn’t “need” a redesign, but the gimmick and concept is good enough to deserve it. Cheers!
