This routine actually requires a setup deck, though you can disguise it because the first half of the routine is impromptu. There is an impromptu version, but it does not really use the full deck.

So I disagree with some part of what you said. You can perform this effect with all the cards (just don't do the 12 card impromptu part) but I agree with the set up. Truly you can't just take a pack and do the trick. You have to remove some cards or take some time to arrange the order but if you worry on that just do what I do, prepare the pack and perform with your pack. The effect is still cool like that man!
