Thank you for making these lectures available to us. It's a great opportunity to see some of the
great artists in the world.
I've never seen Rocco lecture and had high expectations. I know
about his many awards for his high caliber of magic. Quite impressive.
However. I was
disappointed with Rocco's organization of his presentation. He was all over the place. He must have
asked what we wanted to see 20 times in his first hour. He would start a trick then jump to
something else. He had no direction.
I just feel that if a presentation is being made from
a high profile performer like Rocco, then as a courtesy to his audience, he should be prepared for
such a presentation. It appeared to me that he just showed up and figured he'd wing it. Not
professional. I was disappointed and turned it off early. I'm curious to hear how others felt. I
mean no disrespect to Rocco.
His jumping a bit is his persona, nothing to be ashamed of, these lectures do have some spontaneous moments that you don't get elsewhere. Your big mistake was to turn it off early because you missed so much that even if it was a bit discombobulated you would have gained a wealth of information... oh and when he did perform you saw excellence in motion. I'm sorry but I feel you missed it... a painting that has taken many turns in it's making, some orthodox and some not might make a new artist uneasy, but it's the masterpiece at the end is what you should be looking at... yes the road to get there is important but if you are too intent on getting there without experiencing a bump or curve you are missing the journey and don't have the appreciation once you are at the destination. Just my 2 cents.
Here is something to be aware of...the Airlines lost ALL of Rocco's props and luggage. So he had to make up his lecture at the last moment with items he could lay his hands on and purchase within minutes. THAT is why he was all over the place. ALL of his carefully choreographed ideas were in another city or country thanks once again to the lazy and discourteous Airlines that charge too much and care far too little about their job. Rocco did a wonderful job showing the techniques and ideas he is known for and creating a fun and creative evening out of odds and ends he had to grab at the last moment. So before you vilify this man you might want to go after the real villian...the AIRLINE!
