"Jan is the epitome of the classic mentalist persona. His ACAAN is one of the best I've seen and his knowledge and skills are world class."- Bob Cassidy

"Jan's billet work is simply exceptional!"- Peter Turner

"Just the lecture of Jan was worth the entire convention. There is probably no other German mentalist, who tunes and works out his routines with so much subtlety and deep thinking. Simply great!"- Erich Hammann-Boretti, Magic Circle Germany

"Jan, you're the best!"-Paul Vigil

"Jan is one of the cleverest guys around, his thinking is simply brilliant!"- Michael Murray

What will he teach?

INSIDE YOUR HEAD... “Finest Mentalism for stand up and stage!” 40 minutes of pure performance!
This act has been performed by Jan for many years, literally hundreds of times. It is real world mentalism, no pipe dreams, more than time tested –it not only works, it hits hard...

Opener-Jan Forster's impressive opener;a fast-going structured routine of multiple effects. And at the end you have already one volunteer on stage. Jan's solution for one of the biggest problems in mentalism: how do I open my act?

Back to School- Real mind reading would look like that; several principles and layers make any backtracking sheer impossible. An extremely strong piece of mind reading involving three volunteers, basically three effects andwith a wonderful theme related plot. A complete different approach in every sense if you would start to compareitwith classics like Cassidy’s "Fourth Dimensional Telepathy". Cassidy loved it!

Do you believe in Chance?- A wonderful, multi-layered closer, involving many spectators; one of Jan’s closers, light hearted, but still hardhitting. If you do not know the work behind you don’t stand a chance to find a solution. A theme between influence and impossible prediction. Packs really flat butplays huge.

Hypno Numbers- This is an absolute fooler! Under the influence of a (supposed) hypnosis a spectator discovers hidden abilities in memorization and perception. Easy to perform, but impossible to backtrace. With little thought also usable as a close-up piece. A brilliant interweaving of various ploys and principles!

Who is he?

Jan Forstergot a huge name in Germany, a big one throughout Europe and, latest since his appearances as one of the headliners and lecturersduring the "Mindvention" 2011 in Las Vegas, the "Mind Summit" 2014and 2017 in Cologne, the "Minds4 Convention 2017" in Newcastleand his huge success with his first "Penguin Magic Live Lecture" in 2016,he is also very well known in the rest of our "mental world".

He is working as a full time prosince 1983, mainly doing theatres with his own full evening show, clubs, corporate shows, cruise ships and occasional TV appearances. Being a pupil of Henk Vermeyden and Joe Nex,he started as a manipulator in magic. He won with his original act "Smoker's Dream" several 1st prizes, including the Grand Prix Prag 1981, the German Championship in 1984-86, the Tarocco D'Oro Bologna 1983, Merlin Vienna 1991 and some more.

Having been always interested in mentalism and mental magic he turned completely mentalin 2000. His deep knowledge and hard school of magic was and is often of great help, but he had to forget also things he had learned in so many years. He did.

Being member of the Magic Circle (MZvD) and the Society of European Mentalists (GEM) he has published highly acclaimed lecture notes, DVDs and contributions to several books and many magazines. He has published 6books in German, the seventh one will be published in 2018. A big book in English is still in preparation, containing all published material plus some more and updates. Currently, it is translatedand expected to be ready by endof 2018.

Many call him "Germany’s most entertaining mentalist" as he easily holds his audience’s attention for two hours and longer during his full evening shows. Colleagues praise his dedication to perfectionism and his painstaking eye for subtleties and details. Although very busy he loves to meet, share and brainstorm with other mentalists.

Bob Cassidy wrote about him: "Jan is the epitome of the classic mentalist persona. His ACAAN is one of the best I've seen, and his knowledge and skills are world class.' His mother thinks he is the best, his kids (still) believe he’s great...

This was really a great lecture.Hypno Numbers was the best.I already knew about this from a Harry Lorayne book, but Jan has giving it a twist, so its now a killer effect.Well done. This will go straight into my repertoire, cause I like work with numbers and using math in my shows. It´s really a mind-blowing effect, and so clever.

I’ll first admit this this act had the first effect to fool me since... the last
time Jan lectured.

There were so many lesson learned — some from Jan’s layering of methods, some from the real world audiences and how he managed them — and his routines around the surprises they brought to the stage.

I liked his handlings of Colin McLeod ‘s opening monte routine and the Cassidy’s three envelope test (though it reminded me more of Alex Marsh’s 3 Envelope Test that was out a few years back). But the most exciting thing for me was his revamping of Becker’s Sum Total.

I watched his first penguin lecture and I was looking forward to his act. The whole act is great, really nice & devious ideas. The last two routines are simply perfect. It feels really nice being fooled badly, it does not happen very often. Highly recommended!!

I knew this would be good, and it’s better than expected. Both his lectures are top notch. There is something I will use in everything on this one. Jan presents great thinking and fantastic effects. Highly recommended. Thanks for sharing Jan!

Excellent lecture! Jan is a master of subtleties, just like the saying goes “ it’s the little things, theirs nothing bigger”. The mathematical trick to finish the show was so clever and the secret so deep and devious no one will ever have a clue how it’s accomplished. Back to school was no exception, with a combination of clever techniques that we all know as experienced mentalists, just put together in such a way that most would never think of. I loved the Hoy technique used in back to school ;). My one criticism would be with how Jan started the performance off with the crumpled price of paper, I can’t really get into why I don’t think it will work as often as Jan said it will, I’ve tried several times with different people and haven’t gotten the same answer twice. Overall I’m extremely happy with this lecture and am looking foreword to Jan Forster Acts 2 !!!! Hint Hint Penguin Magic! ;)

The closing effect in Jan Forster's LIVE ACT Penguin Lecture is easily worth the price of admission. Many layers of deception, easy to do, and it makes your audience assistant look like a savant! The other material is also excellent, but this is the one I'll be using most often!

Like everything else from what I have seen of Jan Forster's work, the creative, the simple and the well thought out also shone through here.
It is not that you do not have to work with this material for your audience - and you yourself will enjoy it, but I am convinced that when you have invested time, attention and effort with these things, you will be rewarded with "workhorses" that will serve you for years to come! Norway

Great Mentalist Act! Report this review

I really enjoyed this lecture & wished it could have been longer, although two tricks were worth the price. I especially liked hypno numbers, which could be performed close - up. Maybe using some blank face cards & aztec thin clear plastic with a swami gimmick too for you know what, when you buy this lecture today. Have a safe & Happy Holidays.

Brutal mentalism in a velvet glove from a true professional. There's one effect in particular here that traumatizes many seasoned performers and showcases Mr. Forster's diabolical thinking in a way that inspires. Check out Dan Harlan's reaction that they cut to at the very end (he's not exactly a novice). Thanks Penguin for pointing out this gem!
