Scott Hollingsworth, entertainment director for Houston's Magic Island in the '90's, once told me
that sponge ball routines should never be used as an opener. When I questioned why, he said,
"They're too good, too strong."
When someone that adept makes a statement like that, it gives you an understanding of just how powerful they can be! Did this review help you?

I have used sponge balls for years & I always like these. They are a great size to play very well,
and they squish very small! Get 'em!

This is my first set of sponge balls. I do not know any other quality but I do enjoy how soft and
how much you can compact the balls for concealment. I've been told to never start out with a card
trick so this is a great option to open an act.

I've become an old guy of late (not really sure why - probably from having lived so long), and my
hands, which have always had tremors, have worsened into distraction; not the best thing for a
close-up man.
Therefore I tend to gravitate to those routines which are both powerful and, while not self-working, within easy grasp after a few hours of practice. Those conditions add up to my most potent effect; sponge balls. While certainly no magician-fooler, to the lay folks they always seem to create an impression. Their usual response is to have them turning to each other and saying, "Yep. He's a witch." Sponge balls were a favorite of both Albert Goshman (obviously) and Frank Garcia, who wrote The Encyclopedia of Sponge Magic, as well. Several sleights (which doubtless Penguin might offer) are available to construct an entertaining routine, w/ particular emphasis on a devastating final reveal, that of transpo from your hand to theirs. Another aspect of the utilitarian sponge is the many ways they can serve for bits of business. Not really sure if this is a violation of review rules, but here's one I'll share. Produce a sponge ball BYFM, and ask the spectators if they know what this is; regardless of reply, state, it's a clown nose, right? (obviously this works best w/ red) Here's something fun to do: get one of these, and tear off a little piece, then glue that piece to the nose on your driver's license. If/when stopped by police, hand him the altered license, and as he looks at it, put it on (demonstrate by holding sponge ball to your nose)(at this point, for maximum effect, simply remain stock still like this for 3-4 beats). From that point, begin your routine. I've always found it a good segue. Did this review help you?

I've been doing magic for about 14 years, and I still love to amaze people with these Sponge Balls!
I love how soft they are, how nice they handle, and how I can consistently amaze teens with these in
less than 15 seconds! Classic and great for a reason!

These are great quality and won't get damaged easily. I reccomed getting a spongeball DVD with these
because the instructions that come with them only have 1 routine.
