Sponge Bread by Alan Wong

This sponge sandwich bread looks so real you will be tempted to eat them! Wide range of magic applications and here are just a few great ideas and lots of comedy:

  • Make them appear and disappear and change places
  • Do a 3 bread repeat routine
  • Do a flying bread routine (as flying cards routine)
  • Unlimited bread production
  • Make a card sandwich to have selected card appear in between 2 slices of bread
  • Make a chicken sandwich with a rubber chicken (Provide your own chicken)
  • Put a white silk into a change bag and have the kid change it into bread instead of red (Credit to Silly Billy)
  • Any comedy divine revelation on toast by painting your image or message on the sponge bread or cut out from the sponge bread.

Come with four slices full size sponge sandwich bread in a sandwich bag and no instructions. Not suitable for eating.

the only reason why I gave two stars is because it actually look like bread. But to call it a sponge was a bit of a reach. Its more like styrofoam. The suggested use of this trick was for a changebag routine. But the bread is so hard if u reach in the bag u will always feel it. Also I feel this should be sold as individual slices not a loaf.

Dan Harlan's elaborate presentation of the PB&J (passé passé peanut butter and jelly) is full of great ideas. I wanted to incorporate some of his ideas into my routine, but didn't want to have to keep buying loaves of bread every time I had a kid show - especially if I have more than one performance a day. So, I purchased a few of these Alan Wong slices of Sponge Bread to put into a Wonder Bread bag. The Sponge Bread looks great - just like real bread - although they are a littler bigger than actual bread slices, so the fit in the bag is pretty snug. In Harlan's routine he does a vanish of individual bread slices. The same technique can be used with Alan Wong's Sponge Bread. In fact, you can use the same slice of sponge bread for each piece of bread vanished and there is no clean up afterwards - it resets itself. Now I just keep this in the prop case with the rest of the set and it is good to go anytime, anywhere without making trips to the grocery store. Alan Wong's Sponge Bread is a little expensive, but if you do a lot of kid shows (and I do), you save in the long run by not buying loaves of real bread for every performance. It is well made, durable and will last forever.
