Since I started with magic I always wanted to do a torn and restored newspaper. The problem was the set up and folding of the existent methods was not desirable. Then along comes this method the No Tear and it made it a pleasure to perform. It is reusable and if anything should happen to it, it is simple to reproduce. It is one of the great tricks in magic and now it is reachable to all magicians whether they are beginners or advanced. I thank those who came up with this method and allowed me to perform it with ease. The reception I get when I perform it is marvelous. It has become a mainstay in my act.

It Can be a Performance Report this review

This is not just a good trick, it's aperformance opportunity. I saw Mark Mason perform this and he, of course, has great patter, but you can create your own as you assembe the torn pieces. The audience is always surprised at the climax.

I am becoming a fan of Mark Mason and his products. This is a great product. Very easy to perform and the dvd gives great instructions on not only how to perform and reset the product (5 second reset) but also patter for performance. I love tricks that are easy to do but look great with everyday objects (newspaper).
While your at it- check out his "Word in a Million". That is a great product and once you get it you will see that it is versitale beyond books.
I give it a 5 because it immediately goes into my act.

Works as described Report this review

This is a great effect and works as described. Very easy to do. I took off 1 star because it can be somewhat delicate if not opened carefully. I believe on the DVD they discuss "strengthening" the gimmick so it will perform longer. All in all a great solution to the torn and restored newspaper for a beginner like me.

This is a fine product that I find better than No Tear-2 because it seems more natural. No Tear-2 is a great effect but it screams "prepared prop." The only problem of the original No Tear version concerns adapting it as instructed by adding the top page of your local paper, a terrific improvement. Unfortunately, papers differ so much in width and length these days that your local paper may or may not be the right size.

If you are already familiar with the torn and restored newspaper then this will be a pleasant twist and improvement. The gimmick works exactly as I thought it would, and is identical to the old torn and restored way (minus all the hardware and bulky setup packet). Very clean and very easy. And very nice. It's worth every penny

Visual and Easy Report this review

The no tears refers to the fact that a newspaper is not torn - scraps of newspaper are shown and then magically turned into a whole newspaper. The no tears also refers to the fact that no tears will be shed, no cries will be heard, no sobs to be found because you won't go through the anguish of preparing a newspaper for every show like with other methods of torn & restored newspaper.

The effect comes with a download code and a newspaper that is prepared and ready to go. Place the slips of newspaper and gimmick in your pocket(s) before a performance and you are set. Reset can be accomplished in 30 seconds; just fold the newspaper and put the slips of paper back in your pocket(s). The effect can be performed parlor and stage and the angles are very wide. There is nothing for you to ditch, but the newspaper cannot be inspected. You can display it clearly without worry though.

A 9 minute video download provides a performance, handling, gags, and tips to making the effect a-one. The video and audio quality are fine. You won’t be watching this on IMAX, but it also was not filmed with a potato. The video does not teach how to prepare another newspaper. Mark Mason states if you want a newspaper for your local area, then remove the topsheet of the gimmick and add the topsheet of your local paper. This is fine; however, at some point in time you will wear the gimmick out - it is a newspaper after all. It’s not hard to make a new one, but I recommend taking a picture of your brand new gimmick before putting a lot of rehearsal and performance into the apparatus you receive.

You can use the one liners and vaudeville jokes that Mark Mason uses and there is plenty of space for you to write your own bits and patter. You will get a lot of mileage out of this easy to perform effect.
