I didn't like this DVD very much. There were four effects that I liked and one of them didn't even work for me(Stabbed). I will go through each of the effects for you.

Pencil through Cheek-The best effect on the DVD. Check out the demo. It is non-gimmicked.

Bowling-This is pretty good too. It's also in the demo. The bag isn't inspectable.

Pin Head-Nice. This is very real-looking. You put a towel over your head and deflate it with a big pin.

Stabbed-You poke a paperclip in your arm. Great idea, but when I tried it, it didn't work.

Lit-Pretty dumb. You take a ciggarette and poke it in your ear and on your tongue.

Take-out -This isn't even a trick. He bends over in an alley and comes up with a rat in his mouth. He swallows it. It is the worst effect on the DVD.

Spike through tongue part 1-Very nice idea. Look at the demo.
Spike through tongue part 2-This is so easy to figure out. (That's why it is not on the demo.) He pokes a spike through his tongue, rips it out, then eats his tongue.

Lunch for cthuhlu-It's okay. A person could figure out some, though. He eats a ciggarette, a razor blade, some thumbtacks, and a candle that he lights before eating it.

Geek!!!-This is easy to figure out and stupid. He bites the head off of a rubber chicken, leaving blood on his face, then he blows the head back on.

Bed of thumbtacks-He lays on a bed of thumbtacks without hurting himself. He doesn't teach you how to do this.

Bob Roach:Psychic Entertainer- A fake roach tries to find a card that you picked on a board with numbers and suits. He fails, and you squash him on the board. When you open it, the guts of the roach spell out the card. I figured it out the first time I saw it, but it might work for you.

Brain Damage-He pokes three umbrellas through a box on his head. Has a nice secret.

Overall,I think that Andrew Mayne came up with a few good effects, then threw in some junky ones to complete the DVD. If I had known all this about the DVD before, I wouldn't have bought it.

Tony Andruzzi would not only be proud, but would probably want to use some of these pieces of "strange magick."

More for freak outs than magic Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on January 8th, 2004
If you're looking for magic to add to a routine, there's not much here to really help you. On the other hand, if you want a few things to just freak out your friends then this has some good stuff on it. Some things are shot in black and white, and I feel the reason for this is because if done in color, the secrets would be too easily noticed.

In my opinion, this DVD wasn't worth it. Most of the effects on it were just to take up space.

Lit is the worst effect I have ever seen. It isn't a real trick, a 5 year old could figure it out.

Take out is terrible too. You can't do it, since its only done with a special prop that he has.

Pencil through cheek isn't very good either. It's pretty hard to make it look real

The good effects I saw were :
spiked through tounge part 1
Stabbed
Bob Roach
Bowling(although most people think they know how it's done)

Those are the good ones. If you think those are worth it, then get the DVD, if not, save your money. Although this teaches needle through arm (stabbed), I still bought the Harry Anderson version.

I got this just yesterday and have watched the video multiple times. It is great. What I love about Andrew mayne is all his ideas/tricks are cheap, clever, and gets them almost everytime. He's also funny and makes his video entertaining. He's pretty good at explaning unlike some. The great thing about this DVD is that there's a little bit of everything: street magic, stage, parlor, or just hanging out with friends/family. I recommend it 100%. There are a few cheesy one's, but the good out does the bad. Get it.

Wonderful Magic Report this review

This is a really great dvd with some pretty stunning tricks. A lot of them are completely impromptu and easy to do but the effect is still great on them. Mayne explains them well, including all the subtleties you need and how to set others up. Its a great list of tricks that are a wonderful addition to your arsenal and it is great for beginners or experienced magicians. This is a must!

Andrew Mayne is a great magician but this might not be the best one to get. I know the demo looks really cool, but yea some of the effects are ridiculous. I'd recommend pencil through cheeck and stabbed are pretty much the only ones that work. Others are just throwaways. Personally I'd save your money and spend it on something else.
