You have a spectator thoroughly examine a shiny key. You take that same key, NO SWITCHES, and put it on the palm of your hand. That's when the magic happens. Without any sleight-of-hand or suspicious moves, the key starts to TURN ON ITS OWN! It turns all the way over until it's facing the other direction!

I'm kind of a sucker and usually can't tell the gimmick behind a trick when I see the videos, but this was an exception. I received this key for free as part of the Halloween promotion, and let me tell you, it's worthless: even after perfecting the technique, almost every spectator (kids included) knows exactly how you did it.
I normally really like my products from Penguin Magic, but this is definitely an exception.
Spirit Key Review Revisited Report this review

You know, I have to eat my words... I thought I had the technique down perfectly when I wrote the previous review but apparently I did not... I am fooling people left and right now, and only a few figure out how I do it. I perform for pediatric patients, nurses, doctors... almost all of them are fooled! I never would have guessed.
Best of all, this trick is very portable, rugged, and easy to do. I just wanted to submit this second review because I feel bad about my initial reaction being so harsh. Work on it, and you'll find that it's a surprisingly great trick to fool your audience!

The spirit key is a pretty good thing to have. I mean it is just so easy for my spectators to find the gimmick when I give it out for examination, but it is still a thumbs up. I like it, and my spectators fall for it. I like it!

Cool looking key, bad trick. BUT if you can disguise this thing with a great story and you perform it for the right people you will get some good reactions. Do not open with this effect. I don't use it until I establish that I am a magician, and then it takes them for a ride. This one really depends on your showmanship skills so if you want a challenge here it is.

I've just got back into magic after many years. This effect can be totally cool if you work on hand position (at or below the waist). Play around with it. I think the key (no pun intendeded) is to have the key roll slowly after it has reached its apex. So it just doesn't seem like it has flipped.

This is a bit of a beginer trick and not that deceptive to someone paying attention. You will need a good routine to pull it off as magic. Osterlind has a routine on DVD 7 I beleive that will help you with the handling and the presentation. If nothing else it is fun to play with and hopefully it will give you some ideas for its use. The instructions and routine that it comes with are not the best.
