Chris Congreave's take on the diary effect is an absolute killer! His self-working approach combines the classic diary effect with a card at any number plot.

365 Is a commercial, entertaining performance piece and ideal for close up parlour or stage.

Just set up your own diary and you're ready to go.

Effect

Your spectator is handed a pocket diary and asked to turn to their birthday or a day which has some meaning to them. They will see you have written a lucky number by their selected date (this you claim was worked out via the use of numerology)

A deck of cards which have been sitting on the table since the beginning is now removed from its case. The cards may be shuffled if you so wish.

The cards are shown to be different and your spectator is asked to deal to his lucky number. This is done fairly and the card he lands on is the very same card as your prediction which is also held in the diary.

Very clean version of the diary trick. Would have been nice if they included a basic pocket diary. As is, you have to find your own. The deck is a twist on an age old idea. Magick Balay has some great applications for the deck if you subscribe to Reel Magic magazine. May also be in his Penguin lecture.

This mentalism-effect is good, it is sleigth free and you can show the spectator different cards being casually dribbled between your hands or cut into piles if you use a table without any awkward movements. They choose the month and date and the calendar can be examined.

It does come with a classic gimmick that you may allready own, but the 365 gimmick is a reversed version...

Writing the numbers in the calendar will take a long time ;)

the effect(once set up)is very easy to do, but this version of the card at any number plot has alot of window-dressing that misdirects audiences automatically.

I would recommend reading up on having the cooler rung if you are doing this as part of a set tho...

so easy. worth waaaay more than what you pay only because the reactions...combined with the grail. forget it. i use this and the grail together for EVERY show as my opener. a husband and wife connection kind of thing. so easy too. think...sir think of a number 1-52. any number. maam, do you remember the date when you first met? find the lucky number on that date in this diary. they are ALL different numbers. when they deal down to the i.e. 34th and 48th card it matches 100% and you can show the deck to be all different cards. fried.
