Before the show begins a spectator is asked to merely think of any word from either side of a large broadsheet from the local daily newspaper. She has a free choice of literally hundreds or possibly thousands of words. After mentally selecting a word the performer seals the newspaper in an envelope and the spectator takes it with her back to her seat. During the show the performer asks for the envelope from the spectator tears it open and removes the newspaper. The performer explains that the spectator is concentrating on a word from somewhere on the paper and it will be the audience's job to find that very word. As impossible as it may seem. Tearing the newspaper into two pieces the performer asks a random audience member to choose either half to discard. The choice is made and the performer tears the remaining piece in half and asks another audience member to select a half to discard. The selection is made and the performer again tears the remaining piece in half asking an audience member to select either half to toss away, yet again. Left with a piece about four inches square the performer calls on a final helper from the audience to join him on stage. This spectator is asked to close his eyes and raise a finger and to drop it somewhere on the piece of paper. The spectator does this and is asked to open his eyes and without saying a thing to remember the word that he pointed to. The spectator is then handed a white board and marking pen, and asked to write the word in big bold letters on the board and keep it concealed from the audience's view. While he is doing this the performer engages the original spectator thinking of a word and asks her to stand and for the first time call out her mentally thought of word in a loud voice. She states her word is, for example, "Flytrap!" The performer asks the spectator with the white board to turn the board around and show everyone the word he pointed to...it is also "Flytrap!"

A good effect for a crowd Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on June 28th, 2011
If you're looking for a large scale effect that involves a lot of people, this is a good way to go. It's about as straightforward as it gets, and it truly does allow several folks from the audience to really have a part in the outcome.

One thing needs to be noted and that's the fact that wearing a jacket of some sort is pretty much required if you're going to do the effect the way it's taught here. It IS possible to rework that but it will take a little creativity on your part. A suggestion is using the back pocket of a pair of shorts or loose jeans, and you'll need to adapt the move to accommodate that new arrangement. The move is very brief and done in a moment when the crowd's attention should be misdirected, so you're pretty safe.

The only weak spots in the effect comes from two areas. First, getting the spectator to choose the word. It is indeed a free choice, but the method used to find out the chosen word could use some work and will probably be adapted for each person's method rather than using the one taught here.

Second (and this might be more of a strength than a weakness), on the off chance the spectator chooses a word from the front page of the paper and that page is eliminated early on, you ending up on that word will seem very unlikely on another page. However, played correctly it might actually present stronger because you found that same word in another part of the paper.

There will be about ten minutes of practice to get it all down (the one move, mostly), then about five minutes pre-show work to get the word from the spectator and sealed up again, and then its nothing but performance. I recommend this for an easy to carry along effect that will play big in a crowd.

Routine is great, method not so great Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on October 10th, 2011
Corporate workers are going to like this, but not really that practical in other settings. The routine is the best part of it, but the method leaves a lot to be desired. I don't like his methods for gaining the info or for the revelation of the word to the volunteer so I have changed both of those which is really what he is selling. I wanted to find a new method here but instead I ended up with a new routine using other methods that are better.

this is a hot mentalist showstopper! Report this review
Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on July 15th, 2011
Clever, almost effortless and relatively easy to do, this trick really shines if you love to project your stage presence; if you're a comedy magician this trick was made for you because all eyes will be riveted on you and it has natural stopping points that are perfect for ad-libbing, it really pops if you have an energetic personality. Having said this, it requires a ballsy bit of pre-show but nothing out of the ordinary; this trick works best if you have an audience of at least 40+ and is best as a segue or mid-routine trick for corporate events. As Linden describes on his DVD, this is not normally his closer but it's THE TRICK that everybody will talk about for days to come.

Very practical and effective stage magic Report this review

This effect should probably be considered a classic by now. The routine Mr Lindan offers is VERy practical, and well thought-out. You get every detail on how to perform this effect, and the creator really does his best to leave nothing to chance.

The effect is really strong, especially in that perticular routine, where the audience is involved in every step of the way, and an audience member even selects AND READS the selected word directly from the torn paper.

The creator offers a very nice handling for the pre-show. I would suggest trying to combine this effect with whatever impression device you might be using (I believe that using Psypher with this one, can leave you even cleaner than suggested here).

In sum, really plays big, and definitely one you'll use.

Fabdonkulous! Report this review

Redonkulous by Anthony Lindan is absolutely fabulous. Performed it for the first time over the weekend and the entire audience gave a huge "gasp" at the close of the performance. As a matter of fact, it was by far the trick that everyone talked about following the show. This is perhaps one of the smoothest tricks to perform. The best thing is that you can totally focus on your presentation and not worry about sleights, etc. Very easy to do and the pre-show takes minimal time and is a breeze. I will definitely keep this as my closer. Redonkulous is a POWERFUL way to end a show.

As for the DVD, Mr. Lindan covered all aspects of the trick very thoroughly and even gives "outs" should something go wrong. Redonkulous is a BIG "THUMBS UP!"

REDONKULOUS! Report this review

I love this style of mentalism! It takes it out or off of the performer and places it all on the people from the growd helping. To me it's not about how much crap I pull over their eyes but how I can leave them with a campfire story for later in thier life. People will forget gift and what not but they will remember the experance/feeling. This is one of the best effect I've ever bought anywhere...and I've waisted lots of money trying to find effects to my liking.

Redonkulous Report this review

I have a very expensive telephone prediction that plays very large and stuns the audience evey time. Redonkulous has the same effect on the audience for 25% the price.

The main difference between the two effects is that Redonkulous requires pre-show work.

Worth every penny.

Amazing Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on May 15th, 2013
I just performed Redunkulous for the first time. The collective audience "gasp" during the final reveal is priceless. I disagree with the reviewer who said this was only appropriate for "corportate" magicians. I disagree. It's not street or strolling magic, but it would work perfectly for any venue with a seated audience. Of all the routines in my one hour show, this is the one people talked about afterwards. I just seems so impossible...it's redunkulous.

Nice effect, but pricey Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on February 13th, 2013
Anthony Lindan has done a nice job with this trick, an improvement over "Scatterbrain." The effect is not hard to do, and Mr. Lindan goes over the details quite clearly in his DVD. For some strange reason, there is an annoying edit at the same moment in both of his live performances when the most important sleight in the routine occurs. That was my only disappointment. Is it because showing that moment would show reveal it as somehow weak or obvious?

My only criticism of this otherwise excellent product is the price. I don't at all begrudge Mr. Lindan for selling a secret that really just repackages a bunch of old mentalist techniques. I just think that charging $60 for such a basic routine is too much. $30 would be much fairer, for what you actually end up learning in the end.

What a mindblower! Report this review

Trust me, your audience will not know what hit them with "Redonkulous"!! It's easy in the mechanics so concentrating on the performance will be your priority. It's not a self-working trick, but it's pretty close. I can't believe he released this...it's that good!
