When you watch Jean-Luc Bertrand's Blinking Effect, you will be struck by two things immediately: how strong the material is and the exceptional production value of the footage. This is because Jean-Luc is both a top professional in his native France, and an expert in film production. He is the mastermind director behind David Stone's Window and The Real Secrets of Magic Vols.1&2, Nestor Hato, and more. .

Now he releases his first feature-length DVD on his own material-and what a collection it is!

The title routine from this collection, "The Blinking Effect," is an unbelievable card routine of misdirection that could become your next closing effect. Included with the DVD is the special gimmick needed to perform the effect.

The double DVD runs 168 minutes and this includes a captivating 35-minute live performance for a crowd. What we love about this footage is that it is shot continuously, so you can appreciate how Jean-Luc flows from one routine to another, and how he constructs a close-up ACT, not just a collection of tricks.

The camera work is exceptional and this makes learning easy and fun. Jean-Luc's style fuses a casual wit with French elegance, and the result is a fantastic debut product from a rising star in magic.

First, the bonus DVD has a short film by Jean-Luc.
It's ok but totally not within the scope of magic.
No idea why it's there except to say "Hey I made a film
and you are going to watch it".

For the main DVD, I find Jean-Luc's style of magic uncomfortable. He doesn't sound relaxed. He almost mumbles
during his performance. I feel like (and I'm wrong) that he is not an experienced performer. I wish I knew French so I could understand him when he performs in his native language.

His guests seem to be watching out for something dangerous to happen to them. They do not look relaxed and seem to
force their acceptance of his magic.

Perhaps it's a culture thing. It took me a while to get used
to David Stone's DVDs that Jean-Luc created.

The illusions are ok. Jean-Luc said that this magic is easy and you don't need much than a basic skill set to perform.
Totally not true. You need special decks, stooges, the confidence to pour water onto your patron's table (not possible in a restaurant in the us. The manager would kill you), smash a glass (again not good for US restaurants) and so on.

I'm glad I bought this so I can see another respected performer. However, I don't think the DVD lived up to the
hype.
