History was made September 2-6, 1982 in a filming studio in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, as the life and magic of Dai Vernon was permanently recorded for future generations. Inspired by Bill Larsen, the project was undertaken by Videonics, owned and operated by Hans Zahn. The co-hosts of the filming project were Michael Ammar, Gary Ouellet and Steve Freeman.

L & L Publishing has now taken this original footage, digitally re-mastered it and released it on 8 DVDs. Not only can we learn by actually seeing and hearing the Professor at work, but our great grandchildren and their great grandchildren will be taught that most elusive of crafts by the grandest master of them all.

Some of the important points to be considered are:

* The format is that of a jam session, with Vernon discussing his tricks, moves and routines, and generally holding court.
* All the moves, techniques, routines, tips and handlings discussed are actually performed by Vernon or one of the co-hosts, along with a complete explanation.
* Roughly half of the subjects covered relate to the published record; half the material was new and disclosed for the first time (at the time of the video shoot).
* Many times, Vernon teaches important new techniques on the Vernon classics, including improvements, or previously undisclosed handlings, even as regards the famous Stars of Magic effects.
* Some world famous routines, such as the Coins in Champagne Glass or the Fred Kaps Coins and Silk (invented by Vernon and taught to Kaps) are publicly revealed.
* Important revelations about the Erdnase techniques, which Vernon has spent a lifetime studying, form a major part of the material.

The idea behind these videos was to capture Vernon live so future magicians can experience him.

No magician should miss these videos. Dai Vernon was the Dean of modern magic and he shares great things on these tapes. I totally agree with Chris, if anyone dares not rate this series with 5 Stars, then you very obviously do not appreciate the Art & History of Magic.

Magical History was made with this recording. While I don't have the complete set just yet ( I think I lack 3 more), I am so grateful to The Professor, Dai Vernon for agreeing to do this recording so that his wealth of knowledge could be passed down to future generations of Serious Magicians.

I've just recently learned that Steve Freeman regrets making this series, which in a way shocked me, but I also do understand. Magic Secrets are no longer guarded the way they were in (The Professor), Mr. Vernon's day.

Youtube is just full of kids & even some adults (who think they are magicians) freely exposing 'others' material. How dare they! Create you 'own' and expose that! If you can't create your own to expose, then take up knitting or crochet.

My only complaint about this Historical Series, starting in magic myself in the mid 60's, is that the price for this Classic Work should have been set MUCH higher, so only SERIOUS MAGICIANS, who truly appreciate our ART would pick up a copy. With the rather low price, unfortunately 'kids' and those who really have NO respect for Magic will pick this up, just to upload it to Youtube.

In my opinion, the price on this Complete Series should have been around 1000.00, or even higher. IS It worth that....ABSOLUTELY! History was made...The Professor, Dai Vernon was taped. Deep Secrets were shared.

The Art of Magic is shared far too freely, with so much exposed to people with NO interest. There is so much wealth shared on this Revelation Series with The Professor, Michael Ammar, Steve Freeman & Gary Ouelet.

While we have lost Dai Vernon & Gary Ouelet, apparently Steve still does attend 'some' conventions, and still has Awesome chops, however, I read on the Magic Cafe he remains very quiet in the magic community. Michael as we all know remains Very active.

THANK YOU to all of these gentlemen for making this possible & available to those who do Appreciate the True Art & History of Magic. I am Privileged to have this in my library.

If you LOVE & RESPECT Magic, get a copy TODAY, and you'll see what I mean. 100+ Stars from me on this one.

MUST HAVE for anyone calling themselves a Magician Report this review

Dai Vernon is known as the greatest Magician who ever lived. His contributions to the art of magic were revolutionary and he inspired generations of Magicians such as Larry Jennings, Michael Skinner, Roger Klause and David Williamson, to name just a few.

The DVD's bring to life what Vernon wrote about in his books and Genii magazine column ( The Vernon Touch ran in Genii from from 1968 until 1990 ).

There's a difference between showing tricks and performing magic and you can learn that from these DVD's.

Plus you'll learn some classics of magic that are still performed today by Professionals, just as Dai Vernon created them.

First off, I would like to say that if anyone does NOT rate this 5 stars, they don't appreciate good magic or one of the greatest magicians of all time.

Secondly, I would like to say that even if you have ALL of Dai Vernon's books and teachings, there is NO substitute for actually having a video recording of him performing alongside the likes of Gary Oullette and Michael Ammar. Just crazy good magic and good interviews.

I really like this entire set, but this was one of my favorite volumes. All however are priceless and SHOULD be in EVERY magicians library. Highly recommended.

I found the dvd very boring. lots of talks between and the three supposedly expert magician, explanation for any particular illusions is very vague and nothing truly is concrete. I believe penguin magic try to make something out of nothing. Did not learn anything really. This is one of a few magic merchandise I bought that really stink. Regret.
