This book is geared toward magicians (sorry normal people) and details the magic of an incredible talent: Joel Givens. He's also a longtime friend.

We bucked all the trends and did something very different. You see, for nearly five hundred years, magic has been conveyed "recipe style" in books. Tricks are a list of materials and steps to follow. But can a magic book tell a story?

Session is my answer. It's not for everyone, and I'm sure there will be readers who can't be bothered with plot and context. But for those who have always wanted to curl up with a magic book and just read, I think Session will be a welcome addition.

Each trick is set within a scene-protagonists, antagonists, hecklers, and a cute waitress-it's all here, and it's all explained.

As someone who has known the author since he was merely an 18-year old, snot-nosed, smart-aleck little punk who used to crash my Saturday demo sessions behind the counter at The Magic Corner in Raleigh, NC...I can tell you that this guy IS, without a shadow of a doubt, THE most all-around, climb-inside-your-mind AMAZING fresh deck of cards to an audience of hundreds mind-screwer you'll EVER encounter in your life! Even if you're NOT a magician; his thinking will make you a better performer at WHATEVER you do! Kudos, brother, I hope this sells a million! It's not even an inkling of what I've seen you do...but, it's a start! We'll wait for "Part II"!

This is a very unique book, in that it is not written like your typical magic book. The book is written in narrative form from the point of view of Joshua Jay and it details a night of sessioning with Joel Givens. This makes the book a great, entertaining read, as there are ups and downs just like any other narrative, with hecklers, cute waitresses, and the like. I've gone back to this book about 3 times now. I happened to pick it up when I was relatively young in magic, so I found most of the material too difficult for my skill level. However, upon revisiting it, more and more gems are popping up. I love Joel's Laser Aces, a variation on a Paul Harris effect, and Joel's thinking is very insightful.
