Healed and Sealed Soda (David Blaine) by Anders Moden - Get enormous reactions when you perform the effect David Blaine used in Vertigo to entertain the world.
"This is the best new effect I've seen released in years. It's just such a clever idea... and so fun to perform. I couldn't recommend it more highly." -Maxwell Murphy, Penguin Magic
The Effect The performer shows the audience an empty, crushed can of soda. Magically, the can starts to unfold and all the dents pops out until the sides are perfectly straight again (see the photos above). Then, with just a touch, the opening seals up. The can is now in perfect condition, as if it has been moved backwards in time.
It is not only healed and sealed, but the can has also become magically refilled, which is shown as the performer opens the can and pour himself a drink.
One normal can is used. The soda is normal, and can be consumed. The can is handed out. No switch.
This effect was invented by Anders Moden in 1997. In 2002, the TV-rights for this effect was bought by David Blaine and it was performed in the TV-show "Vertigo".
You will learn
How to crush the can in full view.
How to start the effect with a full, unopened normal can wich you open, empty, crush THEN Heal and Seal and open again, once again pouring the drink.
Variations suitable for different situations: Stage, close-up and (almost) impromptu.
Several different ways to prepare for the effect.
Examples of how to use this principle for a transposition effect.
Manufacturer Says Why do I sell this?
Well, I didn't mean to at first.
I, Anders Moden, created this effect in 1997 and published it in Bruce Barnett's "Electronic Grimoire" (EG). The australian magician Tim Ellis, a member of EG, made a highly acclaimed tour with this effect as his signature piece in the US in the spring of 2002.
Then the rumour about the effect reached the team behind David Blaine, and the TV-rights for the effect was instantly bought. But only hours after David Blaine performed it on TV, the "gold diggers" struck... An effect was sold on eBay that falsely claimed to be what Blaine had performed. Of course, crucial details was missing (for example; it did not contain the eye-popping restoration phase).
This "pretend-to-be" manuscript is unfortunately still in circulation.
Also, recently a booklet became available at some magic dealers that describes the basic effect somewhat correctly, but very brief and not crediting me at all.
So I decided to "strike back" and collected all the ideas and variations that I, and friends of mine, have come up with since 1997. I hope that the word will spread and people will not have to spend money on inferior copies.
Testimonials
Matthew Field commented on this trick when performed by Tim Ellis on Monday Magic in New York: "This is one of the most astonishing things I've witnessed in a long, long time!"
Wayne Shipman followed up by saying, "The soda can restoration was drop-dead magic. Rooms full of jaded magicians were exclaiming "NO!" and "NO WAY!" During the Saturday evening show, the row behind me made a comment (they were magicians) during the soda can restoration: "The man's a personal friend of Satan..."
Spectacular effect. Absolutely ingenious. Best trick i have ever bought...handsdown." - Joshua
How does your brain work? Thank you for being so devious, I cannot wait to literally wipe peoples perceptions right out of their brains with this." - David
Testimonials
"Very cool, visually crazy, and extremely easy to do... takes maybe a minute to set up then your ready to perform... good buy." -- Jason, U.S.A.
"This trick is awesome." -- Jim, U.S.A.
"This trick is very easy. It's so easy that I'm very self-concious when I perform it because you think someone will figure it out (but they don't, don't worry). The instructions are well illustrated and very clearly explained. Definately worth it."

First I will say this trick will be hard to fit into your normal routine. The set up can be a little time consuming but it's really worth it.
I find this trick is more suited for parties and such. I've done this trick with cans of beer and it was a huge hit. It's very visual and really hits home.
If done properly you can make people think you've used thier empty beer/soda can. It's all about being settle.

Clever
[Verified buyer] by Clay Skaggs from Kennewick, WA on 04/07/2010 22:34:48
I love clever thinking and this trick is full of it. I drink a lot of pop so I love tricks that utilize pop cans, full and empty. This looks like an absolute miracle. There is some prep work but it will blow people away. For my working performance venues this is totally impractical though, which is why for me it only gets a 3. I just don't have any real opportunity to perform it all that much. If you constantly have friends at your house though, do yourself a favor and get this.

Official B_Magic Review!

Hi! This is your official PenguinMagic reviewer, B_Magic.
Healed and Sealed is a genius effect, perhaps one of the most genius ideas I've seen in a long time. I was stunned when I purchased this effect, just by the diabolical nature of the trick!
That said, it's not something I perform much anymore. It's not that the trick isn't good, on the contrary, I feel its a fantastic effect. But it isn't very practical. I personally like hard hitting effects, which this can be, that are easily transported and are straightforward to do, which this is not. The trick requires a bit of set up, which is worth it in some cases when the conditions would be right (like a big company barbecue where co-workers are sure to ask you to perform something), it isn't worth the setup for most everyday situations. The setup is not hard, but does require you to carry things on you and be away from your audience for a bit to set everything up.
Again, its a genius effect and one I'm glad to know. It's something that I will do situationally, but not something I do regularly. I'd recommend it though to those who feel they could get more use out of it. It really is a good effect!

Could be better
by Michael Lindsay from New Zealand on 04/05/2010 23:28:49
Okay this effect is strong, but set up takes a lot and isn't too examinable, also is a bit hard to do too close up. I think the whole method could be better but overall its okay, it's just it has to be done quite soon after set up so wont fit most performing situations but its all good.

Lot of Set Up
[Verified buyer] by G Money from Gulfport, MS on 04/04/2010 20:17:37
I bought this a few years ago, and have yet to perform it. It just requires too much set up, and it has to be the right situation/environment. It just doesn't really fit into my routine. Given the right situation, it probably would blow people's minds (as David Blaine did in his specials). I would recommend spending your money on something else.
