I wanted to like this book, but was incredibly put off by (and troubled by) the misogynistic
drawings throughout the book, depicting nude or semi-nude women in lurid poses, including at the
feet of (clothed) male magicians. Frankly, when I first saw those pictures I assumed that the book
had been published back in the Stone Age, or at least the 1940s. Imagine my surprise, then, to see
that it was actually published in 1995!
I urge Penguin to stop selling effects and books
that are demeaning to women. It's insulting to women, and to the magical arts at large.
