Good tricks spoiled by misogny Report this review

I wanted to like this book, but was incredibly put off by (and troubled by) the misogynistic drawings throughout the book, depicting nude or semi-nude women in lurid poses, including at the feet of (clothed) male magicians. Frankly, when I first saw those pictures I assumed that the book had been published back in the Stone Age, or at least the 1940s. Imagine my surprise, then, to see that it was actually published in 1995!

I urge Penguin to stop selling effects and books that are demeaning to women. It's insulting to women, and to the magical arts at large.

Because they sell so many books like this, right? (eye roll)

Get real. You don't like it, that's fine. Don't try to make my decisions for me. You sound like the Church Lady from SNL.
