The spypad is a small spiral notebook about 3x5 inches. It looks just like a good quality pocket notepad you'd find at most office supply stores. While the secret isn't some new concept (I can think of at least two other pads on the market using the same gimmick), it does offer a great way to do close up mentalism with a very common object.

Forget worrying with a billet tear. Rather than have the spectator write something down and then hand it to you so you can tear it up (nothing suspicious about that, right?), you can have the spectator write down the word, number, picture, thought, or whatever, tear it out of the pad themselves, and hand you the pad while they keep the paper. That means the magician has never touched the paper and even had his back turned while they wrote it down.

Can the pad be examined? Nope. While the secret isn't immediately obvious, it wouldn't take long to discover what's going on. That means you get it back from them quickly, but it's completely natural as the pad has no apparent bearing on what's happening.

Also, this is a disposable trick. That means after about 50 performances, you'll have to buy another one. There are no refills for this. Still, you'll get a lot of good performances out of it before you have to worry about that.

The gimmick serves it's purpose well. But the real work lies in the presentation. The DVD is excellent, it gives you a platform to work from. Once you have the concept, it's time to put your own spin on it. I have been pleasantly surprised with the reactions.
