"I've seen similar things, but never this direct, straight to the point and strong. Even after seeing it twice in a row I didn't have a clue!"
- Jan Forster

"Steve Dimmers' Screen Test is a great example of a practical, effective piece of mentalism. I love the movie presentation as everyone loves the movies. It's small enough to be carried and used for strolling gigs and can also play for a stand-up audience. And the Oscar goes to... Alakazam Magic for putting out another fantastic Effect!"
- Danny Archer

Screen Test by Steve Dimmer is incredibly deceptive with a cheekily simple method.

Your spectator is handed a bunch of classic movie poster postcards (Each movie is different).

While your head is turned your spectator mixes and selects any one of the movies (totally free choice) and puts the other postcards away (out of sight).

You now state that written on the back of the chosen movie is a list of all the movies included in the set. You ask them to read the list out in any order they like, while you try to pick up on vocal cues to determine which movie they are thinking of.

As they read the list you apologize, stating that you are not picking up any changes in their voice so you are going to try it another way.

You ask them to start imagining the movie, now while your back is still turned you start to reveal exactly what movie they are thinking of.

Also included on the streaming video is a bonus section packed with additional presentation ideas including Peter Nardi's 2 spectator presentation, Where the theme tune to a thought of movie plays as your phones ring tone!

A Weak Knock-Off of Cinema Verite Report this review
Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on July 25th, 2015
(This review is for Screen Test by Steve Dimmer)
Screen Test, both in method and production, is a poor alternative to the excellent "Cinema Verite" series by Jim Kleefeld. Also, the Screen Test method is most practical if you live in the UK, as the list method used would be fairly transparent to an American audience member (all I can say without tipping the method). Cinema Verite includes more movie cards (printed in full color on BOTH sides, not just one), uses a much more subtle version of the method, and includes a SECOND revelation of a number (along with the poster name, actors on the poster, etc) that is really devious, but easy to do. No memory work or involved calculations. If you like the premise of Screen Test, save your money and buy the original, Cinema Verite or Classic Cinema Verite. It's a worker developed by a pro, that you'll use all the time. I know I do!

A fun movie theme take on mentalism Report this review

This is a great mentalism routine that really fools people. I love the movie theme. However, the cards are not totally examinable. If they examine the cards thoroughly, there is a chance they might notice 'something'. Fortunately, the routine has the spectator hide the rest of the movies so the magician can't get any clues and see what wasn't chosen(which conveniently prevents the spectator from examining the cards together and noticing 'something'). But these cards can be shuffled, and you never have to touch the movie they freely choose. Overall, great! A great stage/parlour piece. Get Pocket Screen Test for close up settings!

The effect was very creative and well presented...however the conclusion was terribly lame.....the first two thirds were magnificent...and it was a real downer to close the effect with......"and your card was......"
It seemed that after the great first two thirds, the author got tired, just wanted to zip up his coat and go home.
Most sincerely,

Wonderful Addition to Mentalism Act Report this review

Unlike one of the other reviewer I do not have another product similar to this. So, I am only looking at what was delivered. What I like best are the straight forward effect, especially with the second presentation added, and the simplicity of the method.

Sure you may say "is that all" . I say, "great that so simple." No one says "is that all to a double lift" and magicians do miracles everyday with that simple move - (not the move here).

Only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars (can't do 4 1/2) is there is a small bit of memorization involved. And I do mean small. Got the whole thing memorized in under 12 min. If you are not willing to invest 12 minutes to learn this then its not for you.

Good video instructions with a couple of alternative presentations.

I have a pretty critical group in my "test audience". This fooled them even after being repeated three times. Second effect with the phone call was a killer finale.

It's a good effect Report this review

I think as a magician, when you learn the secret your heart drops and you think, "aw that's it" but don't let that deter you. This still plays big as a mental effect and can be adjusted to fit your stage or parlor routine very easily. Are there other routines similar to this on the market, yes, but this is still a good trick.
