Garrett Thomas needs no formal introduction. A genuine master in his craft, Garrett is one of the few magicians who can claim the titles of innovator, performer, and all around genius. While Garrett was releasing hit effects like "Banded", "Imagination Coins", and "Stand-Up Monte", he also focused his creative ingenuity as a behind-the-scenes consultant to David Blaine. Here, At The Table, he shares that brilliance on camera. While Garrett teaches a number of unbelievable moves and effects, his lecture is aimed at drawing out your inner magician. If you're satisfied with being a mediocre performer, this is not the lecture for you. But if you've ever dreamed of gaining deep insight on how to become a master magician with the ability to create miracles, join us as we welcome Garrett Thomas, At The Table. Here are some of the things you'll learn:

Garrett's Tilt: The best tilt move you'll ever see. Magicians and spectators can be burning the deck and still never see this one coming.

Garrett's False Pick Up: A flawless move that seems like the magician is simply cutting deeper into a pack while forcing a chosen card. Combine this with Garrett's Tilt move, and you've got a hypnotic array of reveals.

Garrett's Smith Myth: Garrett shows three spectators three cards. The spectators then push each card into random places in the deck, and the deck is randomly cut into multiple piles. The magician can now reveal that the spectator's chosen cards are the cards on top of each pile.

Lie to Me: Garrett starts off by pulling out a random card. He then shows the spectator a card, and follows by asking the spectators to lie about the card by naming a random card. He then is able to divine the spectator's true card -- even more surprisingly, the random card pulled out from the very beginning ends up being the lie card!

Dime and Penny: The spectator holds four pennies and a dime stacked and locked between their fingers. Without going near the spectator, the magician now reveals the dime is now in his hand, and has vanished from the spectator's hand.

Pen Thru Quarter: A super clean pen through quarter effect.

Silver Dollar to Ring: A routine where a coin becomes a ring, which then becomes a coin, which then transforms back to the ring. Every single moment feels naturally motivated and incredibly magical.

Great thoughts and a couple great tools Report this review

If you are looking for someone elses routines to instantly copy and add to your repertoire then this may not be for you. For me, his thoughts on magic alone were worth the price. His tilt work alone was worth the price and his handeling of pen through coin may get me to do that effect that is usually quite transparent again. If you are a routine collector that doesn't put much thought into your own magic then you should pass. If you value things that may challenge your thoughts on magic and value a few solid tools then I highly recommend it.

Just another example of true magical thinking Report this review

This lecture is so great! So many insights. Yes, great effects or “tricks” but to me it’s the philosophies behind the tricks that can make or break them.
Greg is a wonderful and very experienced host. I love that he has the ability to ask the questions that are important and the fact that he called Garrett out on a flash (in a very professional way) was wonderful!
Also the comment about Jay Sankey always using the Erdanase Change was great (I was thinking that for years now).
If you are looking for great effects and routines then this lecture will be right up your alley. If you are looking for great insight and philosophy about magic then this lecture is right up your alley.
Yes, he fooled Penn & Teller but he also discusses how the effects created for the show are deterring from actual spectator astonishment. Which I fully agree with.
If you are a real worker then you NEED this lecture. If you are a hobbyist you will probably benefit by skipping past it. It’s 3 hours long. Yes there are 5 wonderful ideas and effects explained but for anyone who is willing to invest the time: this is a great lecture and you will more than likely learn 10-20 “tricks” from it!

Superb theory from Garrett as always with him. His thinking is on another level. I very much enjoyed his "lie to me" trick, very practical and plays huge for laymen. There aren't a ton of tricks in there but his thoughts and advice really get you thinking.

Even the first 20 minutes are worth it! Report this review

Garret Thomas loves magic and you can tell. The hardest job of the magician is to connect with the audience. Thomas brilliantly goes over practical theories about how we can do that. How we can turn tricks into magic. I've only watched the first 20 minutes as I have to write an essay for uni, but he starts strong. 7.95 for his lecture is unbelievable. In the day and age where magic lectures are just tricks, this one is great mixture of both. Amazing! Have they done a Tamariz at the table yet?
Highly recommend. Plus its GT, his Speedreader and Stand up Monte are pretty much classics.

If you want to hear Garrett's thoughts on magic (most of which are excellent) then purchase this. As for the effects taught, it just wasn't for me.
