The use of Billets in Mentalism is often regarded as a hidden art...until now. Allen Zingg offers this four volume course on the use of Billets. Billets are small slips of paper that information is written on, this is the information that will be the thoughts that the Mentalist will use for the performance. The Mentalist will secretly gain access to this info using the techniques taught on this DVD set.

There are many variations on each of the techniques offered giving the performer many options. In addition to exhaustive teaching on the techniques that make this type of work possible, there are many routines that exploit them.

1. This course is nearly comprehensive. It would probably not be feasible to include every center tear devised--my favorite's are Doug Dyment's R2D2 and Ran Pink's T-Rex. Dyment's R2D2 is clean, efficient, and if someone is staring at your hands, they'll swear you couldn't have seen anything. T-Rex is messy, even ugly, crude, and if someone is looking at your hands, it's obvious you just opened up the paper like a book; however, it has one fewer tear than R2D2 thus is faster and less deliberate. Neither are included in this course as I think they came out later.

2. Zingg seems like a nice man.

3. There are both performances and explanations.

1. Production. Allen is soft spoken and does not use a microphone. There is audio feedback in all the explanation and performance videos. On top of this, there is a constant, annoying, "background" stock music track playing at the same volume of his explanation videos. Notice I put "background music" in quotes. This music track layered on top of his explanation videos was poorly executed (the volume of the music should be much lower). It is tiring, straining to listen to what he's saying under the music.

2. Pacing of performances too slow. I played the performances and some explanation vids at 1.5x playback speed. It was much better. This review did not lose any stars for Zingg not being Derren Brown, just mentioning it.

3. The explanation videos are with Allen facing the camera, holding up a billet, folding it this way, then once this way, then from top to bottom, then left to right. Everything is reversed. It would've been more convenient if he had the camera over his shoulder so I could follow along with breaking my brain.
