Let's set the record straight. The "tell" when using a marked deck is not the design of the back. The tell is looking at the backs for too long trying to read the markings.

And that's the problem with this deck. Specifically (and strangely), the numbers read fine, but the suits are just a little too difficult to read quickly, which means that reading the markings requires more time staring at the backs.

This is still a good reader back deck. But is it the "ultimate marked deck" just because they have Bicycle Rider Backs? I say no it is not. There are better ones out there, and they're all more reasonably priced.

So minus 2 stars for the poor readability of the the suits, and minus 1 star for the high price (which is the highest price I've ever seen for a marked deck).

Best Marking System Ever Report this review

You don't even have to think about it. On the back of the card it says EXACTLY what the card is. For instance the 7 of Clubs says in the upper left corner 7 with a picture of a club under it. Same goes for every card. All the cards are marked in the upper left corner as you would naturally spread the cards (if you're a right handed performer)

This is my favorite marked deck of them all. I've played with many. The Boris Wild was my fav before this came out. I use this in conjunction with a memorized deck routine to kill people. Then the deck is shuffled and I use the markings to do other tricks that you just can't do with out a marked deck. Boris Wild, and Luke Jermay have some great work with Marked Decks. This is by far the easiest to read in my opinion.

"Seeing" is make-believing Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on March 1st, 2016
My only reservation: those who have reported that you must have good eyesight to read these cards are not kidding. I find that reading the "value" of the card is simple, but the "suit" takes a little extra effort. With a quick squint I can pick out Hearts, Spades, and Diamonds fairly easily. I have real difficulty reading Clubs, for whatever reason. In my case I've simply adjusted to, "If I'm not sure what suit it is, it must be Clubs" and I've always been correct. So that may take a little getting used to.

For the record, my eyes are 47 years old, so your mileage may vary! (I wear glasses but only for distance.) Just keep to a well lit area (bars/pubs can be hit or miss on this point) and be in control of the distance of the cards from your eyes and you will probably be okay. A few run-throughs by yourself in different conditions is a good idea.

Quality of the deck is top notch, handles exactly as you want it to. And the markings are virtually invisible, even to the trained eye. (Yes, that's a joke at my own expense.)

So: highly recommended, if your eyes are up to the task. And the deck is worth the extra effort based on the reactions I've gotten from spectators. For my audiences, nothing less than genuine magic is happening. No one at all has said, "Gee, this must be a marked deck." (I almost feel guilty using it.) A really great tool in your arsenal--if your eyes can keep up!

These cards are easy to read and easy to master. They would not pass inspection in a casino, but no one ever suspects these cards in a magical setting.

Purchase them for all you're magical marking needs.

Fantastic Marked Deck Report this review

OK, this is the "red corvette" of marked decks - the best, #1, absolutely killer!

I used to use a DeKram deck for many years but this deck is eons better. The system is well hidden, yet beautifully incorporated into the backs of the cards and undetectable. I plan on buying a 2nd or 3rd deck just in case this ever goes out of print - I want a pack of these until I get old.

I have used this deck for about a month and not a single spectator has had a clue - none. The marking are fairly easy to see - possibly a little small for those with poor sight, but I have had no issues. Highest recommendation. Get one or two of these and you will love 'em.

Worth every Penny!!! Report this review

I was a little hesitant to purchase this deck because let's be honest, it's a little pricey for a gimmicked deck. I took a stab at it anyway based on some fellow penguin reviews and couldn't be happier that I did. This deck is worth every penny. I've used this deck with plenty of spectators without a hint of detection. The cards are top notch in quality and remarkably easy to read. If you're a card worker, consider this deck a must have in your arsenal.

The best Marked Deck out there! Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on May 27th, 2008
After looking at and reviewing several factory marked decks I finally got the Ultimate Marked Deck. It is outstanding! It's very easy to read the markings and what is even better is that there are no codes or methods to learn. You just read the suit and value directly. This really is the easiest marked deck you can use. I can't recommend it highly enough! I then had my wife examine the cards and she could not find the "secret" until I gave her a hint. I had another marked deck that I let my wife examine and she found the secret immediately, even though it was a harder deck to "read" than the Ultimate Marked Deck. Great deck!

2nd Best marked deck Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on March 22nd, 2008
I really like this marked deck, I have almost every marked deck on the market and this one is at the top. The Boris Wilde marked deck is very nice but I do not want to hesitate for a second locating the markings, This deck is a nice balance from too bold (Ted Lesley System (Still #1 in my book)) and Boris Wilde (Hard to detect (Not a bad deck at all just isn't in my top 5)) the markings can be read from a ribbon spread (Ted Lesley's cannot) I am still going to give this 5 stars just because it is very balanced. I just want to Identify the marks in .000001 of a second because I am very picky.

They're The Only Rider Backs I Could Find Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on September 5th, 2023
If you perform exclusively with the Bicycle Rider Back deck, you should definitely get one. If you don't perform exclusively with Rider Backs, there are alternatives available. You can find numerous marked deck reviews to help you choose the best-suited deck. However, it's important not to make the mistake of solely relying on a marked deck's merits when making your decision. Since these are Rider Back cards, they can be seamlessly integrated into an unmarked Rider Back deck or packet of cards to perform a wide range of effects where these markings would be advantageous.

I have poor vision without my glasses, but with my prescription lenses, I can easily discern the markings. While the values are relatively straightforward to see, distinguishing the suits can be more challenging. However, with practice, I trained my eye to first focus on the suit. Diamonds, hearts, and spades are easily distinguishable, but clubs can be a bit trickier. To work around this issue, I simply assume that if it's not a diamond, heart, or spade at first glance, it's a club.

These marked cards fall into the category of a must-have for specialized use. When you need marked cards for routines, the Penguin Maiden Back marked cards are my reliable assistants.
