I was quite disappointed by this effect after I received it. The ad copy and testimonials are great,
but, in practice, I found the restrictions on its use and where and how I could use it did not
measure up to the hype.
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is and it was for me here.
Save your money.

This is very well designed and shows a lot of thought went into it.
I have only performed
this once on stage so far. My helper had his word written on a clip board standing about twelve
feet away and we played hangman. I could hear whispers in the audience (How is he doing that?) after
he acknowledged each of my correct hits. No one had a clue.
Very easy to do, plays big,
packs flat. What more can you ask for?

Well thought out and smart prop! I love all of the fun features built in to this innocent-looking
book. Super thorough teaching as always. I do wish I could have written in the puzzle words myself
in my own handwriting, but I also understand why it was done this way (it certainly saves time, as
it comes completely ready to go). Super job, Dan, as always!

My Word is very clever and easy to do. The basic “cheat sheet” method for phase one is easy, but
will require good routining and/or extra crib effort to sell it well. However, a little bit of easy
memory work can elevate the effect and open up several more excellent presentation avenues. Phase
two is optional, but, with some ingenuity, can land a good one-two punch to your audience’s brains.
My Word CAN be performed with no memory work, but good routining is needed (like with most mentalism
effects) to sell it well. Hint: Phase two crib can be duplicated and sent to Apple Watch (not
part of the instructions, but easy to do).
One con: All the words written in the various
crossword puzzles have the same font and color. My suggestion is to have the words in the various
puzzles printed very lightly, which would allow for you to write over the top in your own
handwriting using various pens/colors to make it appear more authentic. It doesn’t look bad as is,
but I think this would sell it even better. Definitely recommended.

I loved the trick, but it would be immensely more valuable (TO ME) if a second copy with a different
front cover was supplied. It would be worth it for an extra couple of bucks.

My Word is a great booktest. It looks like an ordinary crossword/Word Search book that you find in
grocery stones. This looks and feels like real mindreading. Not a magic trick. Doing the routine
is not difficult in a manipultive sense but does require rehearsal in order to do it well. If you
are willing to put the work in, I highly recommend this effect and plan to use regularly in my
shows.
Very creative and well thought out routine as is usual with Dan. A book test without a book.
Ok, I got it 3.5 months after purchase (I guess the situation here delayed mail...), but BOY - It
was well worth the wait...
Although the principle of the secret isn't new, the way it is
done and presented is BRILLIANT!
I need to modify the presentation a little bit as I'm not
in an English-speaking country, and the "Hangman" game is not that popular here - But it's easily
fixable, as I say I got the crossword book at a foreign airport, and mind reading in a foreign
language is much harder.
The letter-by-letter reveal is like solving a crossword puzzle.
It makes PERFECT SENSE to do it that way.
This is the second unique boot test I have by
Dan Harlan. Thanks for another GREAT MAGIC product!
I really like the simplicity of this effect. Nick’s idea of taking the time to use a blue pen to
fill in each puzzle (code for something else) is genius. it took me 45 minutes to do so, but now the
book looks used rather a magic routine that I bought online.
I also like the two phases of
this routine and Nick’s live performance of this on the video.
This is going into my act,
alongside effects like Mental Pen and SvenPad.
Hats off to Dan Harlan for bringing this fabulous mental effect to our magic fraternity. If you
learn the trick just as presented you will have a mental miracle in your repertoire...However, if
you want to take it one giant step further then take the time to completely memorize both phases so
that while performing you don't need to be anywhere near the book. You will then have a SUPER
MIRACLE. I perform this for small groups (table hopping) combined with a couple other treasured
mental effects and it never fails to get a miraculous response.
