After an extensive long study of the move known as Up The Ladder . Four tutorials, 2000+ videos on the move later, I am finally happy with the results of my tutorial. Here it is, a comprehensive instruction on how to do a move that is easy to learn, and even easier to do poorly. I have covered all the essentials such as the number of strips, ways to finish the cut, and even motion of the strip (Round Circular). So, welcome the best tutorial on the move. Ten years later I am proud to present The Best Tutorial on Up The Ladder Cuts!! Gamblers' False Cut, although not the most difficult of moves in the realm of card magic, does deserve the same treatment as any other move. I have read most of the print sources on the move and although I am still scratching the surface I have put in enough hours to be confident enough to teach the move step-by-step. I mainly teach the Expert Card Technique version which can be found in that book by Jean Hugard and Frederick Braue, specifically page 78. I teach the move face down, face up, back-to-back, multi-colored, upside down, right side up, and even hanging off a cliff (Just kidding... except for the face up, face down, and multi-colored part) .... I use half the pack red, and half the pack blue, which makes it all the easier to follow. I finish teaching the move with 3 cards and finish off with some five of my favorite clips. Without further ado I present:

A solid tutorial on the Up the Ladder sleight broken down by using two different color backs to show where the packets start and end. I appreciate that, as well as showing small applications like using it to control a card.

After reading the reviews, I thought I would add balance to IMO unwarranted one-star reviews---obvious someone had an ax to grind. Gabriel has had a lot of experience with this move and does a good job teaching. Sure, you can find free videos on YouTube teaching similar but not as thorough.

I was doing a similar version after a push through false riffle shuffle, but I like Gabes handling better and plan to use his handling going forward.

Filmed on an old smartphone with poor explanation of a “clean false cut “
If this wasn’t filmed with a weird angle maybe in a studio. I would rate this 3 stars .

NOT GOOD 👎👎👎

This is bad.Whats with the distracting audio. I think you can do so many other false shuffles/cuts.

Slightly confusing in the presentation Report this review

‘Up the Ladder’ is an excellent tabled false cut, and the main difficulty is understanding the full process. A video really helps with the placement and speed etc. I found this video interesting and it will help many. But I thought the presentation was slightly confused. It seemed to skip about a bit, rather than travel from A-Z. That aside, I’m sure many will find this a useful aid to learning the false cut. Beginners will certainly benefit, and should be able to learn it from this, as it cover the basics and explains what it happening. However, they should then spend some time working on the speed and smoothness, which is really the hardest bit. Thanks go to the author and Penguin for providing it.
