The Illusion That has Fooled Millions—Now in Your Pocket

One of the most iconic solid-through-solid illusions ever broadcast was Misled performed by David Copperfield. A pencil pierced a borrowed dollar bill—not once, but twice—then left the bill completely unharmed. The audience was stunned. The magic world was changed forever.

Now, that legendary illusion is back—and better than ever.

Misled Pen by Timothy Wenk transforms the original miracle into a sleek, modern performance with a ballpoint pen. The effect is just as impossible, just as beautiful, and now more practical than ever.

Here’s what happens:
A borrowed (and even signed) bill is cleanly penetrated by a pen—right before their eyes. In the second phase, the bill is wrapped around the pen, and with no warning, it melts straight through the center. The bill is unharmed. The pen can be examined. It’s as close to real magic as it gets.

“The visual is perfect. The method is bulletproof. The reactions are unforgettable.”

This routine has been performed by top magicians on stages and screens around the world. Now it’s yours—with everything you need right out of the box, including:

  • A precision-engineered gimmick

  • A matching ballpoint pen for a seamless illusion

  • A comprehensive tutorial by Nick Locapo, who’s performed this miracle in real-world conditions under pressure

Nick shares expert tips, subtleties, and performance psychology that elevate this classic from a trick to a showstopper.

Best of all?
✔️ The bill can be borrowed and signed
✔️ The pen can be handed out for inspection
✔️ No magnets. No threads. No nonsense. Just brilliant design and diabolical engineering

Whether you’re performing on stage, at a table, or through a screen—if you want your audience to see real magic, you’ll perform Misled Pen by Timothy Wenk.

When i first started magic, one of my first tricks was the pen through dollar. This is a different method of course.
I just love how penguin is bringing back the classic staples in magic. This is a great looking illusion. Excellent for social media and amazing in person.

Pen Through Bill Happy Magic Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on July 19th, 2025
Everyone has seen pen through bill tricks. They are everywhere and they don’t impress like they did 20 years ago. Timothy Wenk has upped the game big time. Openly showing a pen laying across a folded bill and slowly melting it through, turns pen through bill into a slow motion wonder.

I’ve had a blast with this thing making restaurant servers both puzzled and happy. I use my own $2 bill, folded diagonally as Timothy shows so the pen can be clearly seen laying inside. I have the server tightly hold the bill while I explain the magical strangeness of $2 bills. In front of their eyes, I slowly rotate the pen down and through and out of the bill, leaving them holding the bill. I offer the pen (they rarely want to inspect it)… I pocket the pen and tell them to keep the $2. An inexpensive tip and a happy worker. Win, win.

Classic of Magic Brought back with a twist Report this review

I owned the original Misled trick (pencil), and I absolutely loved it! Bringing back a classic using a pen without sacrificing the principle was ingenious. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!

Misled Pen, a truly wonderful climax Report this review

One of greatest close up illusions of all time just got better.
I have 3 original pencil versions as I was scared it would go out of production.
The pen is even better simply because it helps with one small thing and also looks more modern and you wont break it.
Of course we all want lead in our pencils, but it’s the penetration at the end of the day that counts.
You will be getting a yes yes yes with this all day long.

INGENIOUS! Report this review

I, too, saw David Copperfield perform this live on one of his magic specials on television. Of course, I knew I HAD to get it, so when my local magic company in Philadelphia started carrying it, I immediately bought it. It is ingenius, very visual, and easy to perform with a little practice. I carried this around with me everywhere, and it was a staple in my restaurant magic gig that I would perform around town. I cannot say enough about this effect, and it’s a shame that there are other phony copies around. The original by Timothy Wenk, and now this “next level” release using a pen, is magnificent.

Great revamp of a classic but could be better Report this review

Cut to the chase:

Gimmick is too flimsy. Needs to be made firmer material.
As is it is like it was constructed out of a straw.
You guys can do better.
Also give us replacements for the gimmick at a fair price.

This version essentially solves the “eraser” issue in the original.

Instructional video is very good but I do recommend reviewing the original handling if you can find it. Has some good pointers

Ive been using this for a few weeks now and it has worked great! The reactions are the best i've had from almost any penetration effect. The gimmick is well made. My only critique is I would like the gimmick to sit a little more flat but it does not take away from the effect. Overall, fantastic trick and great instructions!
