I enjoyed the product, the quality is good and the filming is fine (always one camera angle) always the same angle.

The effects are the type of stuff that's works for an audience of people of all ages and social backgrounds as it should be on the streets. Easy to follow, direct, visual. Nothing to argue with that.

I appreciate the insight on the philosophy of being able to give options and learn to go with the flow. Terry's experience as a working pro allows him to master not only the skills required in his effects but to also manage audiences with ease.

I have to give the product 3 stars because I was disappointed by the fact the "card forces" where not taught in detail even though during the explanation an headline on the bottom of the screen states to look in the main menu of the DVD for the "techniques" section. There is no such section to be found. The value of this products is more in the way magical art should be presented rather than sleights. But still, mastery of the techniques involved is the premise of any art. If something is advertised and full teaching is promised, it's simply unacceptable to forget. I believe that's what happened. They forgot to include the techniques section. Not a minor mistake.

I also found it boring to have to listen to Giovanni repeat the same things over and over and over in each and every interview: How nice it is of Terry to share his routines and how special his style is of giving options and playing with the audience. After the fourth time I couldn't listen to it any more. Really you have nothing a else to say?

The hardest tasks of a street performer are gathering a crowd and keeping the crowd from leaving. All shootings start after a crowd is present. If they had included the part where he gathers the first few audience members the product would have been much more valuable. There are plenty of routines that play great on the street. I would have loved an even broader insight.

Overall I think this is not a bad product and I think Terry Ward is an amazing performer. Get the DVD if you want to watch a master. but for people interested in street performing there are better sources at a better price.

As soon as this was released, I bought this DVD set immediately. I'm a huge fan of Terry's work at Walt Disney World and I knew I was in for a treat. This set is first class in every way ... the packaging, graphics and camera work are all top notch!

Three of Terry's signature routines are thoroughly explained with both live and studio versions of each. Very helpful to see the interaction with audience members and how Terry's theory of "play" is used to keep things fresh.

Everything is clearly explained and Terry even lets you in on some of the logic that goes into each routine. This is a true gift to the magic community ... thank you Terry for sharing!

If you're a working pro, The Art of Play belongs in your DVD library ... Highly Recommended!

The content on these DVD's is just outstanding, with a premium bit of attention paid to performance. If you're looking for a DVD that is packed with new effects, this isn't really it, but the routines that are covered are very strong, and the teaching is very well done.

But the real reason to purchase and watch this set is to learn about Terry's approach to performance and interacting with his audiences. Well worth the price and should be in everyone's library.

Terry is great with his audiences. He's playful, has a fun character, and is very engaging. You will learn a lot from watching him perform. The effects he teaches are very practical and work well in the various situations he shows us. Highly recommended. He also has an informative interview section. I just have to say that the guy who is interviewing him is HILARIOUS. He's either a serious OVER ACTOR or is just slightly nuts. He would make a great foundation for a character. He's a pleasant fellow but if you watch the interviews you will see what I mean.
