When you think of magic, I'm sure you immediately think of eggs. Okay, maybe not, but eggs have been used successfully in the acts of many top professionals.

Eggs are a perfect size for most performers to hide without detection, and their fragility makes them appear difficult to manipulate.

They have a built-in appeal which makes them a natural for comedy, and magicians have long manufactured many varieties of special, realistic eggs.

This lesson will expand your knowledge about those gimmicks, show you how to use them, and teach you some very entertaining routines.

To begin with, Dan tries to protect an egg from being broken, and (although it seems like failure is certain) the egg pulls itself together in the end.

Then, you'll learn a different method to create a similar effect devised by Tarbell, himself, to make everything more self-contained.

Next, Dan takes on the timeless favorite known as "The Egg Bag," and (as usual) Dan deviates a bit from tradition to give you a fun, new, farm-fresh approach.

And then, Dan shows you a very clever, multi-phase routine that takes the egg bag in unexpected directions that are guaranteed to surprise, and fool, everyone.

Along the way, you'll be introduced to a few clever gimmicked eggs, and Dan will teach you many items you can make at home, including a new, cleaner way to remove the contents of an egg, the Tarbell-style egg bag, and a secret holder to obtain (or switch) an egg any time you want.

These tricks run the gamut from over-easy to hard-boiled, but on the sunny-side, you won't have to scramble to leave your audience fried.

Dan Harlan IS a genius, true. His creations and presentations have been among the most clever in magic, and certainly CardToon is immortal.

But the strongest credit belongs to that OTHER Harlan - Dr Tarbell. His lessons, especially the originals, demonstrate and teach principles as well as methods, and teach how to make strong magic. It's no wonder that the greatest of magicians based their work on Tarbell's course. Lance Burton, for instance, has said his act was something like 85-90% Tarbell.

Dan's greatest genius, in this case, is to distill the actual teachings from Tarbell. Yes, there are different, newer ways to present and perform - Tarbell did teach to make the magic your own. And Dan not only does that, but shows us HOW he came to the conclusions he has.

He sometimes hurries, using a phrase such as "I didn't really like that" when he's speaking of minor specifics. But what he's saying, and what he's showing - is that if one learns the lessons from Tarbell, one can create - sometimes out of thin air - strong, powerful, mysterious magic.

And THAT is where Dan's genius really shines: He knows good stuff when he sees it, and he knows how to make an audience sit up and freeze in utter amazement.

Harlan and Tarbell - seems inevitable, when you think of it.

In general it was a good lecture, but I was expecting more variety. Too much time devoted to the egg bag routine.

I am huge fan of the Egg Bag and use it regually in my routine but I am always looking for new ideas which is what drew me to this Download / DVD.

There are some Eggselent ideads on here for 2 different handelings for the egg bagg but alos 2 different handelings for the indistructable egg (broken and restored egg) also ideas for home made hold out gimiks etc.

If you want to make an egg routine this is the product for you.

Very well explained do not regret the investment at all.

this review would be a 5......cause the lecture is great.....

However, foam eggs, hollow eggs, and wooden eggs that all match are not that readily available anymore......penguin should sell these as a set....

Also the canvas egg bag is awesome.....find someone to make those too....

practically, its was not very productive because you cant just go out and buy...or get the props anymore (that match....but historically it was a great lecture...especially the middle section of the lecture...so overall a 4

Useful routines Report this review

I've always wanted to do an egg bag, but few routines are deceptive, and most not interesting. However, Dan Harlan solves both of those problems using two different methods. Now it will be possible to add a fooling and entertaining egg bag to your my repertoire.

I know that these lessons are all about what was in Tarbell, but Dan adds so much that I cannot recall what was in the original (which is always shown/mentioned) or what was Dan's. Doesn't matter. In the end, great stuff.

I have seen the egg bag routine done since the 50's and with a few additions or slight change of patter it always played well but was basically the same. Dan has turned it onto it's ear and has even put together an ending to the routine, which it has be lacking for over 50 years. I bow to you Dan and recommend that if you get no other download, DVD, book or packet trick you get this now.

Hello,
This is what you get. Egg magic. Of course.
In comparison to his other work, you get way less content.(still over an hour.) Mostly talking about these long hard and expensive to make gimmicks.
DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR TYROS
I personally will probably never use this stuff. That is not to say that the stuff is not good. It is extremely well taught and great quality video. He teaches only two effects and various methods for both of them.
Requires heavy gimmicktry and not so easy stuff to get. This is the worst Lesson I have gotten so far.
A fellow Penguin.
