This deserve a good review. His style is a joy to watch. The way he present his effects fits his style and there's a lot to be learned here. I don't think it's much recommended for begginers, but begginers will surely benefit from this lecture. His methods are as off beat as his presentations. That's why I think it tends to fool magicians... if you try to spot a bottom deal or something when watching him... you will be fooled, badly. Plus he will teach a lot more than the description. I'll go through the lecture quickly and describe what I spot:

Prediction - An impromptu way to make a prediction of a card at a number.

Stocan - An SCAAN with no force. Very clever.

Peek and force combo - A peek that actually help to hide the force.

Timed Forces - Both face up and face down, with a no fail out.

Memorized deck - One of his signature tricks. Just borrow a shuffled deck of cards and memorize the position of all cards in seconds. No deck switch, just pure clever method.

10 Cards for Levante - A poker bet simulation that's very off beat.

Flow Production - A beatiful 4 ace production, with a nice idea for a card transpo.

Freedom Stacking - A very off beat way to stack a shuffled deck for a poker demonstration.

Impromptu demonstrations - Here you will see an exorcism session, as the devil incarnates him. Yes, this guy can be very diabolical. He improvise ideal situations from a shuffled deck. Pure fast thinking. If you like the vernon's "trick that cannot be explained" you will love it. And he will give a lot of ideas to it.

Digital 4 of a Kind - A nice way to produce the 4 aces from a shuffled deck with the deck in the pocket.

Think of a card - A way to find the card that is actually just thinked.

There's more to it, but I think this is enough to show you what this is about. 5 Stars is not enough to rate this lecture.

I've watched perhaps 40 or 50 Penguin Live lectures and they're always good. However, every once in a while, I come across a performer who is so inspirational and transformational to my magic that it changes the vector of what and how I will perform going forward. This lecture was one of those, and for me, is in the top 3 to 5 magic lectures I have ever seen. Wow, this was valuable to me, I can't recommend highly enough. Great effects, practical, and for the most part easy to learn. And perhaps most importantly, Joe Barry conveyed a style and attitude that was different than any I had seen, and something I can strive to learn from.

Thank you Mr. Barry for a very impressing lecture. A lot has been said already, so I just want to add:

Very clever forcing techniques, very impressive way of open set up a deck and the demonstration of the power of precise instructions how to psychological lead the spectator by attitude and the way of talking - all this makes his lecture an important event.
The effects by memorizing cards at specific positions - as da Ortiz does with the C10 procedure - is inspiring. is t
Also: Mr. Barry is capable of doing difficult sleights: He is a prime example of how effective a mixing of both strategems can be.

Besides all - Mr. Barry has a very charming personality.

If you like card magic, you have to watch this. Really strong magic, lots of great ideas. Sleight of hand is often replaced by clever thinking and structure.

Joe's relaxed style is a pleasure to watch and you will get some great ideas. His method of taking the risk out of the classic force is worth it alone and there's so much more.

I love his style of magic. Borrowed decks with amazing outcomes. His style is so relaxed that it feels like the spectators do everything. You buy Lennart Green LIVE and this you have some of the most powerful card magic on the planet. Some of the methods seem so simple that you think the spectators will catch you, but I promise they won't. Trust me and buy this. I learned so many valuable lessons from this and changed my view of card magic.

Joe Barry's lecture has to be one of my favorite card magic focused lectures on Penguin. He brings a different style of impromptu magic to the table. Most of his tricks do require a table or mat but that shouldn't be a problem. When he says you can set up right in front of a spectator, he really means it. Not to mention, his quick thinking helps you sharpen your ability to even take a shuffled deck, spread it, and decide what trick to go with on the fly. All by looking at the deck!

He is slick, "off the cuff" and most of all a performer.

Oh man, I had to download the video of the lecture, and slow it down just to get an idea of what was happening. Even with cards face up, and his thorough explanations, his moves are deceptive and hard to follow.

But oh man, it's worth it to watch through and figure it out.

I think his impromptu card work is just freakish, and I love that he tips some methods for achieving some really impossible magic with borrowed, shuffled, decks.

If you're a card guy, you know Joseph Barry is the man.
