"I set myself a task last year, to make a changing card case that is fully examinable, with no switch etc. It had to be the same box that changed. After many methods and many hours of development work, 'Under Wraps' is my final answer." -Mark Mason

Show a card case to the audience; under the cellophane, on the card case, there is a face down card and a face up 3 of Diamonds. You explain the reason for the 3 of Diamonds being on every box, is that this is the card that most spectators select.

A regular deck is removed from the box and the joker is given to the spectator. They slide the joker into the deck, anywhere they like. The card next to the joker will be the selected card. This will be the 3 of Diamonds and will prove why there is a picture of it on the box.

The selected card is revealed ---- it's the 10 of Hearts. They picked the wrong card. The deck is shown, the cards are still in new deck order, the only one missing is the 10 of Hearts. You now instruct the spectator to flip over the box. The card UNDER THE CELLOPHANE is now the 10 OF HEARTS, matching their chosen card.

This is a great piece of close up magic, it resets in seconds, is so easy to do, it's great.

You could actually give the box to the spectator as a souvenir. The deck can be used as your regular deck for any other tricks you love to do.

Remember

  • The change is UNDERNEATH THE CELLOPHANE.

  • No elastic.

  • Nothing flips.

  • No flaps.

  • A regular card box is used.

I really do like this trick but the gimmick looks a little suspect. I showed it to my very observant 11 year old son and he said, "something looks a little off" when I showed him the box in gimicked form. I wonder if mine was just not as nicely made as everyone else on the forum cause everyone said what a quality peice they got but mine looks like it could have come off a photo copy machine. I love the concept but wish they would come out with a version two that looked just a little cleaner so I could be more confident with it.

The gimmick is not well made. It can be seen unless it is dark or your audience is far away.

I'm not even a card guy, and I LOVE this trick!
Like a few others have said before me, the gimmick doesn't look perfect. HOWEVER, I strongly believe a layperson will NEVER notice it. I have performed this on dozens upon dozens of different occasions, and not once did anyone notice a thing. (and I am horrible with sleight of hand. So don't worry about knuckle-busting, there is none.)

ADD TO CART! Especially now that they've added a full deck to the deal.

This effect is unbelievably easy to perform and very clever in design. It takes little or no practice.

I like this trick - it's easy to learn - has a nice self working aspect to it and the dvd teaching by Mason is quality (as always).

He puts a lot of thought into his tricks - and this is a smooth one.

I'm not sure why his full demo isn't listed above to watch yet - but the trick is much better than the demo he's speaking over currently listed - so he's kind of almost underselling a really smart trick.

Grab it - it's a fun one and easy to do.

Good effect, visual. Report this review

Good effect, very visual, easy to perform. Gimmick does all the work.
4/5 because the art quality on my gimmick was lacking a bit, but it was ok. Not something I would regularly perform, not a borrowed or examinable deck effect.

Well Mark Mason has done it again ! I Confess I am a big Mark Mason Fan. As well as a Rick Lax Fan. Other reviewers were saying the gimmick was off ... Mine is perfect. This is an offbeat card trick that the public has never seen, it requires NO SLIEGHT OF HAND. For walk around Magic or table hopping this is great. For a parlor performance I had them SIGN the box and give it to the spectator at the end. I also let them lift the card off the deck and let them put the box on top of the card. There doing the Magic...this very strong. For the most part its clean.
Pros: Easy to do
Resets Quick
2-Teachers Mark Mason & Rick Lax
Instructional Videos Very Well Done
Cons: NO DVD. Promo was mis-leading Rick and Mark both showing package for DVD. NOTE: Chris from Penguin seen what I was talking about and offered my a FREE DOWN LOAD...

SPECIAL NOTE: If you like something buy Two !!! .... I just ordered another one !!! its that good

A few weeks before this effect was released, I was sitting at lunch with one of my college buddies and we were discussing different gimmicks for card tricks...I had asked him "Dude, wouldn't it be cool to have the card on the box change to a chosen card"...we sat around and wondered on it BUT couldn't find a clean way of doing it...then BAM...couple weeks go by and I get an email "Mark Mason Presents: Under Wraps" read the description and showed my buddy and I bought it, got it, showed it to my buddy and we were BOTH like "D***N why didn't we think of THIS!!! My point is Mark Mason is incredibly deceptive and diabolical when it comes to creating new gimmicks and I am proud that he created what we had in mind for changing the image on the back of the card box. This is an amazing tool and it ALWAYS gets a GREAT reaction. SUPERB!!!!!
