I've done this one countless times at shows or even for groups close up (not for one on one). I do it as a perception/memory challenge in which they keep the gift card if they can recall the pin on the back. I play it just as you would with "coin on call". I actually really like it and the audience has never caught on to the method. Don't consider this a throw away.
