I was sooo looking forward to this. When it came out, I got it right away (at full price). What a disappointment. And I know I am reflecting what my other friends think.

Maybe it's because I have many other books on magic theory, but I got almost nothing new out of this. In some ways, it seemed so trite.

If it had not been written by Juan, I would have given it only 2 stars.

Please, read it again slowly and carefully and you will became an artist and not a performer.
The chapter about memory is pure gold: it is the tool that let you create real miracles !

I have all of Juan's books (except for this one, since I just ordered it now) and I agree that beginners will have a hard time grokking the level that he talks about magic. Well, some of his stuff is really technical and that's actually easier to read, but his work on psychology and the thought process that goes into leading the spectator can easily seem lofty to those who haven't yet reached that level of magical thinking.

You nailed it. You can read Mnemonica and come out able to do a lot of stunning tricks. Or you can dig into his philosophy and become a master of them.

It's extremely rare to see this kind of detail. I can't wait for the book to arrive!
