Overall, a good, easy, and clean trick to carry around that you can perform at will. However, while
watching this performance on Penn & Teller I had an idea how it worked, and I was right, but I
thought I must be missing something and figured there must be more to learn so I made the purchase.
The trick is easy to do with just a little practice, but I don't think you will be able to fool the
same group of people more than a few times before they figure it out. That said, I am REALLY
surprised this trick fooled Penn & Teller, and the price point as such is far too high as a result;
something in the $5 - $10 range would be more like it.
I haven't even seen this effect yet. But as for "fooling" Penn and Teller...I think it is often clear that they just GIVE that title out pretty often. Especially to their friends, legends etc. There have been PLENTY on the show who have "fooled" them, but my 10 yr olds could figure out.
Oh… They ABSOLUTELY say they were fooled when they weren’t. They have to say they were fooled so many times in order to keep the show interesting. I personally know 2 people that were on the show and “fooled” them. Trust me, they weren’t fooled. My son was 8 yrs old during one of the appearances, and told me exactly how the trick was done while we were watching it. But Penn and Teller couldn’t figure it out? Gimme a break Lol
As far as this particular trick goes… it’s pretty cool, but I wouldn’t trust my “ability” to make this work in front of a paying audience.
They have a bad habit of saying they were fooled when clearly they were not. Penn also has a bad habit of saying "I've seen the [enter classic effect here] done thousands of times, but I've NEVER seen it done as well as this!" I know they're trying to help out young magicians and their friends, but come on!
On this one I think they were going by the rule of "if we guess wrong then you fooled us," but their approach also would have worked just as well if not better. Their guess was a gimmicked coin, which could have included something like applying a treatment to one side of the coin.
Agree it's a good trick but overpriced.
Also agree if that if you show people it a couple times they'll probably figure it out but that's maybe in part because to make it "magical" you need several coin flips otherwise the coincidence is not that strong. For each coin flip you need to do the same "move." So even just seeing the trick once the audience has seen the "move" maybe 5 times. I think the trick could be most powerful if mixed with other selection methods or coin forces.
