Eugene Burger is a pillar of magic and is deeply rooted in modern magic history. But, you didn’t
need me to tell you that. The information in this lecture was wonderful, useful too. However, the
dynamic between Burger, Hass and Harlan was strange with Hass seemingly dominating a lot of the
lecture (which is not what I expected and wished that Burger took a little more control.). Perhaps
they should have called the lecture “Hass on Burger and Spirit Magic with special guest, Eugene
Burger”. Hass is smart and speaks well, but also comes across as pedantic (I also found this to be
the case in his “My Way Out of This World” video instructions, too). I know, I know, the guy is or
was a professor but, not everyone in the magic community has a post-graduate academic background.
Harlan, on the other hand, who I’ve come to appreciate more recently came across as very modest and
humble offering alternative insight which was practical and useful.
Was this lecture worth
it? Yes. You’re going to learn some good effects. However, you’re also going to get a bunch of
history and stories (which is not a bad thing so long as your expectations are under control).
