I had high hopes for Arcade Coin. I always liked Scotch and Soda but was always bothered by the
orientation of the assembled gaff. Hand it to a coin collector and all they have to do is turn the
coin over in their hands and they know something is not right. I know, my brother collects coins and
burned me on this early on.
Penguin solved that problem by making Scotch and Soda with an
arcade game token and a quarter.
You get the gaffed game token, a real quarter, a washer
with a hole in it, and a bang ring. It took a few minutes of looking at the token to decide which
side to put into the bang ring. And... I got it wrong. So, high points for that. I thought maybe it
would be a stamped shell, but no, it's a nicely machined shell. When you stack the gaff and drop it
on the table, it sounds like a solid token. No tinny hollow sound. My favorite thing to do is to
pull the assembled gaff out of my hand, drop it on the table, and ask what's in my hand. It sounds
so good.
The only negative: the bang ring sucks! It's flexible. Sometimes the coin gets
wedged in sideways when banging the coin to separate the gaff. Otherwise this would have been 5
stars.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with this purchase. I even just ordered a spare.
