I normally like Miranda’s stuff, but the Universal Smoke Watch is brutal. It’s a cheaply made
3D-printed device with mind-bogglingly bad design choices.
For example, the charger is a
bunch of exposed wires barely attached to a USB dongle. It’s hilariously fragile and delicate. Any
misstep, and the whole thing falls apart instantly. Also, this thing is advertised to be able to
hide in objects for long lengths of time so you can trigger the smoke from afar. The problem? You
can only trigger it ONCE. Then you have to manually go handle the device to set it all up again for
a second release of smoke. Rinse and repeat for the third and fourth puffs. It turns itself off
after EVERY puff of smoke. That’s not a faulty device, Miranda explains that this is a “feature.”
It’s brutal.
The problems go on and on, but I’ll stop here. I wanted to like this a lot.
But it’s a massive disappointment. So much wasted potential.
