It arrived last night and was very different from what I expected—much better, in fact. The change
is purely visual. While practicing, you can seamlessly transform a bill into a card and back again,
continuously switching between the two. That move took me about two minutes to master.
My
granddaughter was over—she’s seven—and she sat on a chair next to me. I was still able to perform it
for her, and she was floored. Just seeing a dollar bill inside a plastic badge case change into a
playing card, then watching me reach in, pull the card out, and hand it to her was all she needed to
see. I didn’t have her pick a card, nor did I make the bill appear in the deck—I’m sure that would
have made it even more impressive.
But after just five minutes of total practice, visually
changing a sealed dollar bill into a playing card, then sliding two fingers down into the case to
pull the card out and hand it to her to unfold—she was absolutely stunned. It was like a modern-day
version of pulling a quarter out of her ear. She has autism and is hard to fool; she is very sharp
and doesn't miss a thing. Here she was, only two feet away, at an awkward angle but still saw the
transformation clearly.
The look on her face alone was worth the price of this, even if I
never performed it again. But I will—again and again, for a long time to come.
