I have this book and noticed there were no reviews and felt like I needed to write one. First, a brief background about me so that you know where I'm coming from, and you can judge how much you want to trust my review. I'm 76 years old, but have been doing magic for quite awhile. I'm an amateur and just do occasional magic for relatives and friends. I do minimal sleights and tend to lean towards self-working and/or prop effects.
Enough about me, on to the book. I bought it mainly for two reasons. First, it's about card magic, and secondly, my wife was a commercial foods instructor, so I liked the cookbook theme. That theme is followed strongly throughout; very interesting format.
It is, in my humble opinion, a beautiful book. It is hard bound, 246 pages, and 8.5x12 inches in size. The description is spot on. It has full color illustrations, many one full page, some two pages. There are, as the description says, QR codes for many of the effects (not all of them), so that you can see him actually performing them. To me, it is very helpful to see a trick actually being performed to get a better idea of the "finished product".
He ranks the tricks into four different levels: Very Easy; Easy; Average; and Expert. The ranking for each trick is given at the beginning of each one. As the description says, and the rankings indicate, there is pretty much something for everyone, no matter your skill level.
The section labeled Cheese Selections is, again as the description indicates, a section on various sleights and techniques that are used in the effects; such things as false shuffling, culling, crimping, etc., just to name a few, and he does a very good job of describing how to do these along with, again, full color illustrations.
As I mentioned at the beginning, one of the reasons I bought this book was the cookbook theme for the reason stated there. So, if you have a reason to like the cookbook theme, I think that you will really like this book. If the cookbook theme doesn't matter to you, but you like card magic, I think that you will still really like it for the routines and information contained in the book.
I hope that this review has helped, and if you do decide to purchase this book, I don't think that you will be disappointed.
So, if you are thirsting for something different, I would put this in your cart.
Bon Appetit!
