I have performed with several spirit bells and was looking forward to this. I bought the Deluxe set.
The props are great and for the most part can be casually examined by the spectator. The
instructions are also well done - very thorough. Unfortunately, the hammer does not always reach the
bell. On my set, it would strike half the time. When it does strike, it is not a strong chime as it
barely touches it. It's as if the prongs that separate the bell and hammer are a few millimeters too
far apart. I may try bending them, but would be fearful of damaging it. The other unfortunate
experience is the help sought from Penguin. I sent an email, with a video showing the problem. I got
one response asking for a video. So I sent it again, to no reply. I sent another email. No reply.
Usually Penguin is really good about support, so this is a bit surprising. I tried to use it in a
halloween show this past weekend, and the second I turned on the device, the hammer would not stop
swinging. Guess the spirits were extra active that night. Had to quickly move on from that effect.
Hopefully Penguin will help me sort that out, otherwise I have a nice display on a shelf - but
non-usable.
I have 2, suggestions. First give it a full charge. Then when you put it together make sure the Hammer and the Bell are square with the back of the base. If it is not square, it will not ring. Before you put the Bell or the Hammer on, make sure the upright top bar is square with the back of the base. I had this issue too, and after looking at it I noticed that it was slightly off, causing it to miss the bell. The video tutorial has a small section on this. I hope this helps.
jimp711. Thank you for the tips and I did do all the things you suggested prior to writing a review because I wanted to eliminate all possible human error. Even with it fully charged and the top bar completely square with the board, I still have issues with the hammer not reaching the bell. It's a lovely prop, so I will continue tinkering with it to try to get 100% consistency.
