Hi, I am a nightclub magician in Las Vegas. I had the opportunity to see the gimmick to this before
buying. I took some time to think on it, then dove in. 2 hours after purchase I was performing this
at PURE, and believe me, it is a money maker.
I made 50$ on my first performance of it,
and that was all I did. Now it is cumbersome, a good outfit for it is necessary, I had to buy extra
jewelry to disguise it, and it can be very touchy.
There are times when this will just not
work, but it will be because of your body, not the gimmick. Having very good muscle memory is
important. As well, if done with visual panache, this effect can become very painful.
It
may destroy your sensitivity in your hand after a while. So it depends on your dedication.
I
use this to open a set because it makes people stop to see what is going on, which then makes simple
tricks look better afterwards, because they are still reeling over the bolt.
Some Points:
1. The leather part is cheap, it will break down.
2. This gimmick would be somewhat
complicated to reproduce, so buy the real thing. (there are janky forges out there)
3. Be
prepared for callouses.
4. Be prepared for your hand to go numb.
5. Be prepared to watch
people lose their sh*t.
The added effects are so-so. I had to buy special rings for the
thumb bit, but now I just put my two index fingers together and that works. The leg stuff does not
work for me, but I can make a cigarette spin on a playing card. (no metals).
If you have the
opportunity to try before you buy, do it. This effect is very heavily based on how your body is, and
you will not know how good it will work for you until you try it. It will work for most people I
believe, but you will have to work for it.
(I personally drew exactly what shape I use my hands
for each effect, then mimic that in practice.)
Bottom line: This effect is
$$$, but that will not be the reason that you will hardly see people doing it. It will
be because of dedication. I perform this regularly in Vegas, and have not met another out here who
does. Its just too cumbersome/painful for them. Which is fine with me.
No pain no Gain.
