This was completely unhelpful to someone trying to improve their performance. With a few rare exceptions the information you refer to was not related to effects, methods, theory, etc..... It was about his shows and what it was like to do them, unhelpful even if you want to go on tv. I agree that derren is a clever thinker, but he didn't show it here.
I share Sarahk's presentiments. Had Mr. Brown been a really smart person, he would have been capable of recommending us, lay people, magician or whatever, of any level, PRESENTATIONAL mentalism without revealing his methods. Any smart magician can talk about his/her tricks without revealing the methods and still come out looking authoritative on the subject. My two cents, Mr. Brown could have said something to this effect: "After you get to the information that the volunteer has in mind, however you do it, be it by forcing the info into his/her head, center tear peek, math calculations, pre-show, stooges, whatever floats your boat, when it comes to the time to REVEAL the info in question, I would suggest that you try this, this and this, and I am quite sure that it will make you presentation a little bit more interesting." See what I mean? But Brown did not do any of such thing but instead talk about his TV shows - brilliant, because I am about to sign a contract with CBS and FOX is begging me switch! Mr. Brown is not just BROWN, he has hints of GREEN.
