I was really excited to buy this routine, especially after watching the demonstration. I was even
more excited when I saw the ingenious way the gimmick is made out of the twine that you receive with
the DVD. (You do NOT receive a gimmick, you receive material to make the gimmick yourself). However,
my excitement fizzled out after watching the REST of the DVD.
It was then that I was made
aware of all the restrictions under which this has to be performed. You have to use some pretty bold
sleight of hand, and definitely have to watch your angles. You have to PICK someone to perform this
with who is wearing just the right type of clothing (that is right CLOTHING), then you have to have
them sit in a very specific way in order for you to perfect the magic restoration of the cut twine,
and did I say be very careful of your angles?! It is also recommended that this routine be done
while seated, and you also have to touch the spectator two or three times to do this. Many folks may
not like that aspect of the routine.
After watching the entire DVD and seeing how the routine
is actually done, I went back and watched the performance again at the start of the DVD. It was then
that I was able to realize that all the sticky, sneaky parts of the routine were actually EDITED
OUT, or not even filmed. I think they even had the main move that makes this trick so effective
completed before they even started the cameras!! I really felt deceived.
Why did I give this a
three star rating ? Well, it is expensive for what you get, and the performance takes a lot of guts
to do and pull off. The DVD was well done, but too long, and wordy. I now know that I will never do
this routine myself after watching the entire DVD. I suspect that most folks watching it will end up
feeling this way.
I really wish they had included a LIVE performance of this routine: then at
least I could believe that it really can be done as described.
