Who is he?

Joe Monti is a funny, engaging and highly-skilled performer who knows how to make magic entertaining and commercial. His tricks are fast-paced, visual and deceptive. He truly loves magic and is enthusiastic about sharing it with others. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Joe moved to the west coast years ago and has been a regular performer at, and member of, the World Famous Magic Castle since 1982.

He has performed for clients in 40 countries, with TV, Corporate and Global experience for more than 30 years. He’s performed at more than 300 colleges, hundreds of Fortune 500 events, and has been seen by millions of individuals LIVE! Joe was the Producer & Senior Consultant 3 years in a row for the #1 Primetime TV magic show on the planet -- Criss Angel's Hit A&E TV Show “Mindfreak” Seasons 4, 5& 6.

Time: 4 hours and 15 minutes (last hour interview)

6 Effects:
Hopping Spots
Torn and restored card corner
A Slydini trick
A Larry Jennings 4 kings trick
Karate coin
Cups and balls

Monti can't focus for more than two minutes (I'm not kidding) before going off an a tangent about something completely irrelevant. Even his digressions have digressions. I felt like I was watching a hyperactive kid on a sugar binge at an open mic night. At times, I forgot what he was initially explaining (and so does he).

The first two effects took 1 hour 20 minutes to get through. 2 hours in, Monti says he's boring himself with his off-topic rambling. Several times he refers to the lecture being edited (he doesn't seem to realize that it won't be).

Monti needed to set an agenda in advance and have someone make him stick to it. But honestly, I don't think anything would have been able to do it.

Skip this lecture and go for another one.

Don't buy it!

He spends most time in trying to be funny with old and cheap gags.
Very CRAZY and mostly annoying for the good money I spent.

I recommend Penguin to establish a quality mark for the magic videos.

Way too many segues and asides for my taste. Get to the point already! The first thing he did took 1/2 hour to explain and it is magic that everyone knows already. This was hard to watch and after 45 minutes I simply gave up. I'm sure there are some good effects later on, but I'd rather watch Kevin Jamesb again and again than to watch this yuk yuk nonsense,

This is the first lecture that I've seen where I literally forced myself to sit down and watch the download (since I paid for it). It took him OVER an HOUR to explain two simple and short effects!!! It is NOT because he spent that time giving advice and subtleties, but because he talked about other things that are NOT related to MAGIC! There should be a lecture just for him that explicitly states "For Comedians Only!!!". Even though he is a great comedian, I'm not here for that. Very disappointed.

Joe Monti was very funny, but did not do a whole lot of teaching. I did not care for his Slydini impression, which he did a lot of.

If youre an actual worker or moving into the industry, theres some great advice during the lecture, not just tricks!!

Joe Monti is a riot and theres never dead air time. Plus some great thinking for off beat presentations or how to approach coming up with them!!

Joe Monti's lecture was too long for amateurs who only want to learn card tricks and too short for Penguins longest lecture.
Too many real world stories about the legends of magic that most of us will never experience. Unless you have patience to understand the tangents that teach far more than the method of a trick please avoid this amazing experience and purchase 100 tricks with a Svengali deck.
Joe 's original jokes might be a shock to those who prefer using hackneyed lines " because they worked for the magician you saw at the comedy club ".
You're money is better spent buying other Penguin effects that require little skill but are actually great !
On a side note I think joe is a mental patient who needs sedatives and a room with cushions. Entertaining and clever yes.... But 6 real world workers that require lots of skill NO! Give me stuff I can buy today and put in my show tonight!

if you are looking for just trikcs... this is not for you! not many routines in the lecture, I think 5 or 6 (which are unpublished) are a real worker! especially the cups and ball! excellent one. The rest of the lecture is all about Joe's character.
This is not for amateurs, (they looking just for tricks) there are some great plot of showmanship (not everything but quiet some) and Joe is a real pro! I could use all his routine in my act which is very rear from just watching an other penguin lecture!
