"Simply super strong magic full of surprises!" - Juan Tamariz

"His display of freedom and ease with a deck of cards creates a spirit of wonder every magician should strive to achieve." - Dan & Dave

"Dani is not only a product of the “Spanish School” of card magic, with masters such as Ascanio and Tamariz as his influences, he is also the product of the ethereal mixture of biology, psychology, stardust and unicorn tears that produces genius. Two of my favorite magicians were Albert Goshman and Del Ray. They had the ability to connect with an audience through their magic on a basic emotional level. There was an honesty in their work. Their ingenious methods, impeccable technique and their irresistible characters were intertwined to create a whole experience greater than the sum of it’s parts. I can think of few performers today who rise to that level. Dani is one. His performances seem spontaneous, his miracles real. An audience feels that they have been treated to a unique experience, not an over-rehearsed stale presentation. To watch him with a live audience is a lesson in what close up magic ought to be, an imitate shared experience of miracles and humanity. His casual style disguises his deep understanding of fundamental magic principles and applied psychology. Any student of magic, at any level would do well to pay close attention." - David Williamson

Who is he?

In performance, he seems to be the picture of complete nonchalance, even going out of his way to help randomize an already chaotic performance, yet miracles happen with the utmost, and ironically unexpected, regularity.

Everyone is talking about him. His methods are unique, his presentations brilliantly entertaining.

Incredible magic from one the world’s most astonishing magicians… Dani DaOrtiz!

i own both of Dani's lectures now and they are both great! He is very interested in psychology and explains more about the spectators then actual tricks, but this is really handy as he gives out loads of great tips and psychological techniques with forcing cards and so on..

At the beginning of the lecture his performs a jazz magic section, this is very entertaining but he doesn't really explain any of it :( but if you own both of his lectures you probably will be able to work it all out anyway so don't worry! :)

Overall this lecture is not filled with tricks.. But is filled with great advice and knowledge you will use every time you perform. Also as another review has mentioned one of the spectators was rude yawning a few times whilst Dani is trying to explain valuable information, but maybe he was just tired , its no big deal.. but yeah overall its a great lecture and he promised he would come back and finish the lecture for free on a week day! 5/5 for me, a must buy lecture!

Tired and Hungry Report this review

Dani DaOrtiz is an amazing magician. Get some of his other lectures (especially the first). This one is not his best. He speaks of being tired and hungry throughout the lecture and I think it shows in his magic. The good tricks he doesn't really teach, the ones he does teach are long and not all that great. This lecture was out of character for this guy.

That being said, there are some ideas in here that may be of interest to you...
1) If you really like ACAAN concepts, Danny teaching a concept of card counting and memorization that you may be able to incorporate in other illusions. It lets you appear to have memorized a shuffled deck when you haven't. I had never seen this concept before and found it brilliant. If you have a good memory for counting and remembering several cards, it might be perfect fo you. Personally, I think his ACAAN tricks in the first lecture were more practical.

2) He offers some clever thinking on the top change, which is notoriously hard to do in surrounded situations. Danny does it with ease and he may give you some tools to figure out how to do the same.

3) He offers some ideas on forcing a card. His psychology force is hard to teach as it relies a lot on the personality of the performer, but DaOrtiz does a commendable job trying to convey the idea of what he does.

If those three things are of interest to you, this may be worth the $20-30. If not, I'd move on to other lectures of his.

STUNNING Report this review

Dani is AN ABSOLUTE JOY to watch and learn from and I buy almost everything he puts out. His Utopia 4-DVD set is one of the best purchases I've ever made. I've seen him perform multiple times in various places and he blew me away every single time, EVEN THOUGH I knew how some of the tricks were done because of his lectures. In my mind he's the BEST card magician on the planet. His stuff fools not only laymen, but top magicians too. Watch till the end for an absolute STUNNER of a spelling trick that will FRY you badly. In fact, you may never ever recover from it, especially when you're wondering how a spelling trick can even be entertaining at all in the first place. But this is Dani D'Ortiz - if he can't come up with a version that fries you he won't perform it. He's also a very good teacher with lots of depth, advice and nuggets from years of performing for real people, that are truly invaluable to any magician - and he's generous in his sharing. Don't want to gush too much but you can never see enough or hear enough Dani. Listen to him and David Williamson and learn all you need to know about magic. And you will be fooled and entertained.

Awesome Report this review

If you want to learn tricks, get something else. If you want to study magic and psychology, get this. He started with a jazz magic section, which even though it wasn't fully explained will give you a huge amount of inspiration. He also went over a huge number of psychological card forces. And my favorite of all, he explained a hilarious mathematics trick that wasn't a mathematics trick. The lecture was funny, entertaining, and inspirational. I highly recommend it.

Dani is fantastic. The host is not. Report this review

Everything in here is fantastic, as with all of Dani's lectures. He goes over a lot of theory in the beginning, but he does get into effects, which are extremely powerful as always. Definitely a lot to be learned here. My only complaint is about Greg hosting. He hosted Dani's "At the Table Lecture," too, and in both that one and this one, he pretty much makes fun of Dani's accent, and tried to make everything about him. Very rude and unprofessional, and I'm not quite sure why they let him be that way. It was so disrespectful. Maybe he's just jealous that Dani is 100 times the magician he is.

My absolute favorite Report this review

I was literally laughing my @ss off during the first half an hour... :-) Dani is so funny, so original, so spontaneous... and so quick!!! I admire him for that. When skill meets humour, the result is something fantastic. :-)

If you tuned in to learn actual tricks, you might be disappointed. But if you want to learn MAGIC, you are at the right place!! Dani shared a lot of his psychology, which is much more useful than just learning some tricks (he explained some as well, don't worry).

The whole lecture was a great experience and a great SHOW. Worth every cent!!!! At the end he told us he's hungry... so he couldn't teach us everything he planned (though is was a 3h25m lecture). So he promised to come back on some weekday, and give us a FREE lecture with the remaining stuff. So cooool, and so generous!!!!!

One of the best lectures ever. Just can't wait for his next lecture!!! Come back Dani, we LOVE you, man!!! Not much, just a little. ;-) :-)

P.S.: By the way, what was the EFFECT?? :-D

Made me reevaluate my approach to cards Report this review

While not heavy on techniques, this lecture gives you a few really killer routines that are not sleight intensive. Dani is a master of psychology and audience management, and goes into great detail about how to make forces feel like a free choice, how to partially stack a deck while it is being shuffled by spectators, and other out of the box tips and subtleties that give you superpowers with a pack of cards

All magicians doing closeup magic should benefit from his lecture. These lectures provide considerable insight into what the spectators are thinking when observing a performance involving card magic. Also are included explanations on some incredible card effects. The session on card forces is worth the cost of the download alone.
