Vibrations could have been an outstanding psychometry effect. But it isn't. Of course, any mentalism effect depends of the performer's presentation skills, but that's not the issue here.

The trick, itself, as Luke Jermay developed it, is excellent. And his instructions are well-written. However, there's a major flaw that rears its head after the trick has been performed. Yes, I said AFTER the trick has been performed. Let me explain.

Four audience members or spectators participate in this effect. One of the four has his/her item returned during the performance. So far, so good. However, after the trick ends and the other three spectators go to retrieve their items (weather as a group or individually), that's when the major flaw becomes painfully obvious. Modus operandi exposed. Game over.

I can't go into detail without revealing the method. However, even if the performer has an assistant return the items to their owners, the method still becomes obvious.True, Vibrations should only be performed before a large audience. Even so,spectators are not blind or stupid. If there is any way to avoid this flaw, it should have been included in the instructions.

I've spent $100 for an effect I can't use. For that price, this should be an outstanding effect that is absolutely bullet-proof. Unfortunately, it falls short.

While I did not purchase Vibrations from Penguin, I did want to leave a review here because lots of folks reference PM for guidance.

This is not Annemann's "Pseudo Psychometry," (PP) by any measure. It is Jermay's take on the presentation of psychometric abilities. The presentation is quintessential Jermay. It is filled with his proven methodology and perspective of how to perform mentalism for a stage presentation. Viewed from the audience, it is stunning.

It is not for parlour, it is not for intimate settings. If you want to perform PP for smaller groups, seek out other methods of which they are legion. It is for a theater setting. Know that in advance.

However, if you are booked for a theater or larger venue, I cannot recommend it high enough. In essence, Jermay has considered the entire presentation from the audience's perspective and re-engineered PP completely.

The value of Jermay's take on PP is that you are given a new way to present PP in a very unique and frankly, convincing manner that only references Annemann's method briefly. The fact that it is expensive AND will only be performed for larger audiences will keep this method relatively exclusive. It is unlikely that many mentalists will actually perform "Vibrations" at all. But if you do, and you have the right venue in which to present it, it will certainly set you apart from other mentalists.

PP is something that I have studied in its many forms and can attest that Jermay has changed the rules of what it should look like. Jermay also deals with the inherent problems that Annemann's orginal text has for modern audiences, i.e. lack of a pleasing climax and audience boredom from repetition of returning items to audience members over and over again.

If you are seeking out a new way to present PP, "Vibrations" is your answer. Often, time is the judge of what magic/mentalism effects will be labeled as a classic. I believe that this will be viewed one of those classics.
